Prometheus rumors continue to swirl: How will aliens factor into Ridley Scott's new film?

02.24.2011

Been eating crow since the last time I posted about Ridley Scott's forthcoming sci-fi tale PROMETHEUS. I really thought the literal connection to the original ALIEN film was bullshit and borne out of the worse sort of rumor-mongering on the net. But in over the course of a month following new accounts, I've been proven completely wrong! Just a couple of weeks ago, the recently cast Michael Fassbender confirmed that the new film would be occurring within the same universe as the old films - telling MTV, "it's definitely in keeping with the old ones" - rendering the whole "it's not a prequel" mantra somewhat moot.

Today, a new rumor takes that one step further.

According to Bleeding Cool, sources close to the site are revealing just exactly how the aliens from the original film are being incorporated into PROMETHEUS.

"Quite simply: it has the Alien aliens in it. The catch, though, is that you might not recognise them – at least, not at first.

Remember how the alien took on canine qualities after gestating in a dog? You may even suppose that the first film’s alien was so recognisably humanoid because it had grown in a human. The same applies here: generation by generation, the creature mutates. As Prometheus begins, the xenomorph is not too recognisable. Sure, it has that alien DNA that Scott and Fassbender teasingly referred to, but it’s missing… well, it’s missing human DNA. Or dog DNA.

All you have to do is imagine how it might look if it were to mix DNA with another alien species… and I think we’re starting to work it all out."

So despite all the initial reports saying that the film is not a prequel, it turns out that it actually kind of is. Should that even matter, though?

Extra Tidbit: Following the logic of this rumor, will the generation of xenomorphs depicted in PROMETHEUS be then based on the Space Jockey? 'Cause them be some BIG motherf*ckers...

No matter what, Fox will still market this as an "Alien" prequel.

Ridley Scott is far too pedantic and methodical to cock this up, I hope.
I imagine they'll be no 'Paranormal activity 2' BOO scares, or cliched horror tropes.

Also I'm pretty sure I've used the whole 'the first alien is different because it's in a human' to shut somebody up complaining about the ridges on the Aliens in....well, Aliens.

this could be good.

we've only seen xenomorphs come out of humans/earth creaatures (the dog in alien3). another completely different species, still humanoid but still very different (not the predator from AvP2..) could be really cool.

Trojan/VIRUS on the advertisement to the right...

FYI, some trojan/virus called "AVS" is embedded in some of the links to the right (you know the ones...chicks with big tits, wacky tattoos, etc etc, etc).

I'm all for making a buck, but if the advertisements are gonna harm my computer if clicked on, I'd ask that JoBlo stop doing business with them.

Sounds to much like a prequel anyway. I'll just have to wait and see how it will turn out in the end. I trust Scott with this.

This could be great--seems more thought is being put into it than the usual "puke an Alien movie onto the screen" mentality..

I was looking forward to an Alien-less movie, but the logic they're applying here makes it sound a lot more intriguing than the latest batch of sequels/knock-offs, in actually evolving the universe.

I've heard several different rumors about this project, but I still remain interested. I'm just excited to have Sir Ridley doing sci-fi again. I'm hoping this is more than just an alien attack movie, we've seen a large alien in AvP and an alien/predator hybrid in AvP:R already, though I'm sure this movie will be leaps and bounds above those 2.

I'm glad that Ridley Scott is returning to science fiction.

Though I had hoped it would be with another cyberpunk picture, perhaps taking on another Phillip K. Dick story, rather than an Alien prequel.

I'm sure it will be good though.

The more details that leak on this movie, the better it sounds. The fact that Scott isn't interested in doing a prequel that simply recycles the same elements of the previous films almost makes it seem like he might be inspired or something.
