Rumor: DC is sour on Affleck, Gyllenhaal is probably Batman in solo film

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

Hello, folks, and welcome to another rousing edition of Will He or Won't He with history's most indecisive Batman actor, Ben Affleck! The rules are simple: Every time there's a rumor pertaining to whether or not Affleck will continue on as the Dark Knight for DC Entertainment's cinematic universe, take a shot!

Today, I might as well be downing the contents of Tide pods – along with every other moron on the internet – as I am already sick to death of the Bat-dance that continues to soft-shoe circles around Affleck's future of the Caped Crusader. Nevertheless, I think I'll opt for some good ol' fashioned Marker's Mark for today's shift at the rumor mill.

The latest bit of hearsay attached to Matt Reeve's solo Batman film comes courtesy of Revenge of The Fans, who reports that Reeves' film will not be a part of the DC Film Universe. According to the site's Editor-In-Chief  Mario-Francisco Robles' studio sources, “Batman is DC proper. Reeves’ Batman is connected. Just its own story.” For the moment, I would dine on that information while using a significant amount of salt for flavor. The reason I say that is because any news related to the DCEU feels like it changes by the hour, these days. So, until an official statement is made by the studio itself, all I can tell you is Bon Appétit.

Revenge of The Fans is also claiming that DC has become disenchanted with Affleck's attitude toward the character, and although he's still under contract to be the Bat, they ultimately won't mind if he walks away from the role. According to ROTF sources, “Gyllenhaal is probably Batman. Affleck is not out of it yet. That’s the thing, he still has a contract. But the studio is sour on him. If Ben rolls, Jake is in. Kind of a weird web. These guys both know they control each other’s destiny.”

To reiterate, nothing about the status of Ben Affleck's involvement in the DCEU has changed at this time. In the meantime, I'll just be over here preparing drinks for when we inevitably gear up for another round of Will He or Won't He with Ben Affleck.

How do you feel about Gyllenhaal possibly wearing the cape and cowl for Reeves' solo Batman movie? Are you hoping that Affleck continues on as Gotham's greatest hero, or is the actor's overt lack of enthusiasm for the role souring you as well? Let us know in the comments section below.
