Saw V teaser poster

Jun. 27, 2008by:

The SAW franchise is churning right along with the fifth installment looking to hit theaters on October 24th and it seems Lionsgate is looking to unleash the film's marketing machine a little early as, thanks to cool schmoe Tyler, we have what seems to be our first look at the film's teaser poster. The poster apparently references the end of SAW IV, in which someone else quite literally takes on Jigsaw's identity and continues his morality-based torture. Shawnee Smith is also back for the torture fun with Meagan Good, Julie Benz, Scott Patterson and, of course, Costas Mandylor along for the ride.

SAW V

Extra Tidbit: SAW V writers Marcus Dunstan and Patrick Melton are also writing the HELLRAISER remake.

I think the Saw series has pretty much worn out its welcome, but that poster is admittedly fairly awesome.

obergeist i must give you props as well for recognizing what i hope this whole community recognizes:they are merely milking the shit out of the franchise's little hairy nipples. i'll admit that i went and watched saw 4 and will happily admit that it is better than saw 3. but thats not saying much.

they turned what should have been a classic (the first saw) into another series where you roll your eyes everytime you hear something new about another saw film. which is tragic. same goes with

Obergeist, I must say that you seem to only be using Saw I as the example for story. There's 3 more to add to that. I believe that Lionsgate knew they had something special and ended it the way they did w/ Jigsaw GETTING AWAY so that if it made money they could continue the story, which it did so they did. What makes Saw's storyline cool and interesting is the way ALL the movies are intertwined together. I'm sorry, but no other franchise has continuity like the Saw franchise. It's ALMOST

Sure there are holes if you look for them. But at least the details are right, unlike other franchises that seem to ignore previous entries and completely screw time up, ala Terminator. Saw has always intruiged me for that reason. Saw 4 goes back to Saw 2 and 3, Saw 2 goes back to Saw 1 Saw 3 goes back to Saw 2, so on and so forth. I find it very cool that in order to really understand whats going on you gotta be current. Unlike other franchises where you can skip the second and go to the 3 or skip the first and go to the 2nd and still understand things. THats why I like Saw. Also, Jigsaw isn't some mindless killer, HE HAS A MESSAGE.

Obergeist, THAT is what I call constructive criticisim. VERY well done. You brought up exellent points and you didn't type like a five year old saying "OMFG Saw Sucks".

Anyways, I agree with alot of things you said. Such as each sequel after the first one is horrible and they get worse allthough somewhere in between the sequels lies a gem (Nightmare on Elm Street 3 for example.). The plot is thin, but atleast they try hard to make it work which brings me to another point.

It's not all about the money. For Lionsgate it is. For the film makers, it's about entertaining the fans. They really put alot of effort into the franchise and try their best to make us satisfied. Even during Saw II-IV's production the director was nice enough to come online to an official Lionsgate fourm to talk to us about it. No other director has done that.

Again, I agree with most of the things you said. Excellent post.

Gotta give up to the Saw marketing team, that is one cool and creepy poster. I loved the head in the scale poster for Saw 3 (or was that IV?) as well. Some very memorable stuff. Unfortunately, this creativity doesn't seem to be transferring over to the movies themselves (the last few anyway).

Better improve

Saw was the best horror film in years. Saw 2 was good. Saw 3 was decent. Unfortunately Saw 4 ruined the series for me. All horror films seem to have one craptastic entry, so here's to hoping 5 can get back on track...but for me, that poster doesn't do it.

Looking at the first film, Jigsaw was more a plot device designed to set up torture sequences. The fact that they gave him some motivations at the end doesn't constitute great story but a means to move the plot along.

You ask for constructive criticism however you say "They think it's just some torture porn movie like Hostel" Hostel also has its defenders about its story and meaning. I am not defending this series but one who believes that the Saw franchise has more to offer then blood and guts should at least acknowledge that Hostel may have similar intentions.

Now the problem I have with Saw, Hostel and other movies of this ilk is that they are just boring. While I can appreciate some of the creativity gone into the kills and I know I shouldn't expect much from these types of genre movies but the fact is these movies were done years ago. Texas Chainsaw, Last House On The Left, I Spit On Your Grave are just some done to different degrees of quality. Some were to make money and see the ejaculation that is the kill. Some were made to reflect various social issues at the time. So for me these films have already been done so much through the 70s and 80s that I see no point in doing them now. The Saw franchise especially because releasing one almost every year seems less and less like they have a message and more and more like they want to make money. Foreplay. Penetration. Ejaculation. Next Victim.

"This film contains depictions of tobacco consumption" ...

.. no, not saw, but hellboy 2... thought thered be a thread about the 3rd trailer by now... anyway, at the end of the new trailer is this horrid warning statement ... what a crappy, pathetic world we live in that we're actually concerned and apologetic about the fact that the gigantic red monster from hell is smoking a cigar.

"It started to suck after James Wan's first film anyway."

It started to suck when Cary Elwes uttered the words "what we need to do is start thinking about why we are here" in the first film.

What's the first thought that pops into your head when you wake up chained to a pipe, with two other random guys, one of them with their head blown off? Your attention should OBVIOUSLY be fixated on the brand new clock on the wall behind. The bastard who took us here obviously wanted us to know what

BEST HORROR FRANCHISE THIS CENTURY HAS TO OFFER.

Seriously. SAW is awesome. One of the greatest horror series this century. No doubt the 70's and 80's had the best horror movies BUT the SAW movies deserve a spot among the Nightmare on elm Street, Halloween, Child's Play, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and Friday the 13th films. The only reason why everyone hates this franchise is because they don't understand it. They think it's just some torture porn movie like Hostel. Let me tell you something people. There's a STORY to SAW. it's not all about

By the time I was old enough to appreciate horror movies (and watch them) I didn't have any cool long running franchises like Elm street, Halloween, or Friday the 13th to go see every year Halloween. I don't care what anyone says, There could be 15 Saw's and I'd go every year to see them b/c they are cool, intruiging, smart, original gore fests that Halloween night as always lacked in the past years. Bring em on. That's the best poster I believe in the whole series. I want it...

I am one of those people. It would have made perfect sense to end it because her was dead. There was only more story because the writers wanted there to be, there didn't need to be. But, I will admit IV was pretty fun and this one might be as well. I like them all in the same, but 3 would have been fine.

It drives me insane when people whine about the sequels and constantly say "oh it should have ended with part 3!" How could it have ended there? 85% of the story was still up in the air. It wasn't over. We didn't know the fates of two characters--one we probably won't know until the end, and there were a multitude of unanswered questions, so ending it at 3 would have made absolutely no sense.

I absolutely can't wait for the final two installments. They're going to be amazing.

Clever poster, I'll admit.

That said, the Saw saga should've ended with part 3. Would've made a nice little trilogy that went out on a high note, as opposed to becoming Lionsgate's new bastard child cashcow franchise that'll soon have as much credibility as every Jason flick that came after part 4.

Why look at the poster to a sequel, if you haven't seen the previous movie? People ruin it for themselves. Like a thread for a move that has been released, if you don't want to be spoiled, don't go into the thread.

As for Saw V, I enjoyed the last Saw movie, and will probably see this one. The Saw moves will continue to come out until they stop making money, which doesn't seem to be happening anytime soon, so why complain?

Yes, I can clearly see it: Saw XC: Still Sawing. Plot: In the most idiotic dream you can imagine, Jigsaw appears to Tom Cruise and convinces him to kill people in the name of Saw. Tom , of course, agrees and voila, we have a new slasher movie.
