See how Hayden Christensen's Darth Vader may have appeared in Force Awakens

12.28.2015

As it stands, Darth Vader exists in STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS as a charred helmet and in a few references, although this was not always the case. "The Art of Star Wars: The Force Awakens" book shows us that at one point in time, Vader would have appeared as a Force ghost. Remember those rumors about Hayden Christensen returning to the SW saga? This is undoubtedly where they've stemmed from as the following concept art shows us a kind of halfway point between Anakin Skywalker and Darth Vader. Take a look!

Artist Iain McCaig on the above images:

“When you light a candle, you also cast a shadow.” That inspired me to propose, for the first time, that Anakin’s ghost could come back … If we see Anakin Skywalker, because he does flow back and forth between Darth Vader and Anakin, let’s see him as a character with a dark and light side. The reason Luke is this whole new entity is because he was the first to acknowledge his own dark side — that it was not separate from him.

Of course, early versions of The FORCE AWAKENS had Luke play a more prominent figure, so perhaps this is something leftover from that. Given that we're going to see much more of him in EPISODE VIII, I suppose there's always the possibility that Vader could return in some form or fashion. The Force is a fickle thing!

STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS is now in theaters.

Bring back Force Ghosts!

SW isn't SW without Force ghosts! I'm down to see Yoda, Obi and Anakin convo'ing with Luke.

SPOILER WARNINGS:

As much as I feel the prequels are...inadequate, I wouldn't mind seeing some elements in 8 and 9. For example, would love Yoda and Ewan's Obi-wan as ghosts to help guide an older Luke Skywalker train Rey. As for Vader, it would make sense for a dark side ghost to visit Ben Solo and with Snokes aid, corrupt him.
The prequels happened and aside from mitaclorians, the history shouldn't be ignored. I'm still rooting for Snoke to be Plagious. Probably won't be, but still

If you noticed the music in Snoke's scenes it was Plagueis' theme from ROTS. And notice the wound, it's from when Palpatine attacked him. It's totally DP and to not use him misses not just the opportunity to use the biggest SW badass but that entire part of SW canon.

As much as the world is going to cry about my comment I want to see more prequel appear in these films. Listen as much as people hate them the prequel films are in this timeline and people will deal with it. People act like its the end of the world they were not that bad just really stupid moments but they felt like their own films. Force awakens didn't have that feeling a great film but not great on its own. It relied on too much of the orginal trilogy to keep it alive and yes it worked but I

I would love this trilogy to have a few more nods to the prequel trilogy because you can't make something that already exsists non exsistant and these people crying about the prequels need to get over it. Episode 2 and 3 got rid of jar jar so people have to stop whining he ruined the prequel films when he was just a mistake in episode 1 that even Lucas aknowleged.

It'd be interesting to see Christensen return as Darth Vader. We'd get to see if the character faults were his bad acting or just bad material. It's probably a mix of both, but I don't think he should carry all the blame for the failures of the prequels.

Less about the prequels the better. There's no need to bring back Hayden Christensen for anything anymore regarding Star Wars.

Such an idiot. You just regurgitate other peoples ignorant opinions. The prequels were poorly done, but the base of the story is excellent and crucial to the Star Wars canon

I agree, keep that dude as far away from the franchise as humanly possible. The prequels were all terrible.

Love this idea

I think this is what excites me about this new trilogy, it'll embrace some of the more religious elements of Star Wars with the Force not simply being a source of power for good or evil but a true balance where the user can embrace both. It's one thing I think Lucas captured brilliantly from the prequels was how the Jedi were portrayed as tyrants who saw isolation in childhood and devoid of emotions were key traits to becoming powerful. I really hope we see an evolution of Luke's character

I really hope we see an evolution of Luke's character since Return of the Jedi. Perhaps he attempted to help Ren embrace his darker side similar to how he embraced his only Ren was too weak to fully accept the light in him was stronger.

Interesting, maybe the true balance of the Force and the prophecy behind that was the Jedi coming to the realization that one needs to both understand and control the light and the dark sides. That the prophecy was mis-interpreted and not about an individual's actions against the Sith rather an understanding that an individual brings to realization. Interesting concept anyway...

Or too weak to stop the dark from controlling the light. Great ideas here. Kylo asks his grandfather to show him the power of the dark side AGAIN, almost seems like Luke and Vader were fighting over him. Luke in training and Vader in spirit, each guiding him in a different direction
