Seth MacFarlane fights for his right to procreate in the Ted 2 trailer

01.29.2015

We saw the premier of the TED 2 poster a few days back, promising exactly what audiences are expecting with this sequel. Namely, really vulgar words and acts performed by a teddy bear. TED 2 focuses on newlywed couple Ted and Tami-Lynn and their quest to have a baby, but in order to qualify to be a parent, Ted will have to prove he's a person in a court of law. Let the . . . court drama ensue?

While the first film's focus was the R-rated hijinx between a man and his bear, I actually think the story about a bond between two friends really held it all together. Judging from this trailer, the civil rights angle doesn't quite work for me. Why? I dunno, maybe because Ted is f*cking teddy bear. I'm holding out for a red-band trailer, but it feels like they're trying too hard with this one.

TED 2 hits theaters on June 26, 2015.

About half these jokes are exact copies of stuff they've done on Family Guy - like the exact same joke.
You'd expect similar humour but doing an identical gag - that's pretty poor.

I laughed & to me that's all I needed to do to convince me to see Ted 2. The first one just seems like a movie people love to hate & the fact A Millions Ways To Die bombed only encourages it, I very much enjoyed both movies.

I'd agree it's the relationship that sold Ted to me. I'm not a huge Seth MacFarlane fan. The guy's funny, but he doesn't know when to quit. There are moments in this that remind me of the buddy comedies of the '80s. And then there are moments that remind me of the worst excesses of '90s gross-out humor. And then there's the pop-culture, which is funny, but tends to go overboard real quick. In all, not a movie I'm going to see in the theater, but a movie I'm not going to write off, either.

Looks good enough! So few half decent comedies nowadays, I'll take what I can get.

The line about Sam L Jackson was hilarious. This actually looks pretty funny. I can care less about the story, it's a movie with a talking teddy bear for god's sake.

Ted is Family Guy... Only Peter is a freaking teddy bear. I'll wait for the Blu-ray to hit the stands, not in a hurry to see this one. I loved the first hour or so of the original but the ending sucked, and I'm sure this one ends with Ted winning the civil rights act. No shock value there. I'd rather waste my money on movies actually worth seeing in a movie theater.

I disagree. TED may have the same voice as PETER (he even acknowledged it), but his lines are closer to what STEWIE would said.

Looks horrible

This is the biggest cash grab ever.

I didn't laugh once at this shit. I really enjoyed the original and the originals trailer was amazing.

This Ted character is already overused. It should have been a one time thing. Seth McFarlane bombed with Million Way to Die In the West. That was just the worst "comedy" ever.

Is it just me, or does the premise sound...

... too similar to the 2nd half of the episode BRIAN: PORTRAIT OF A DOG? Anyway, Seth didn't have to rehash the plot. The 1st movie used the "ALF formula": Putting a not necessarilly human wise-cracking pop culture expert character in everyday situations with people who speak normal. Therefore, this sequel could work.

The story doesnt much matter for these movies... i mean, the 1st had some story about the bear being kidnapped! But what made Ted great was the one liners and the script for that had a million of them. If 2 can continue with that type of great script then it will be amazing... if not, we will have a mediocre movie like Million Ways to Die in the West!

The first one I thought was surprisingly funny. It feels like they've gone in a totally different direction here, but I really did crack a smile once.

Looks surprisingly good.

In a day an age where sequels are there to grab money this one seems to have a unique story to tell. I'll admit I am biased because I think MacFarlane is so talented, but I think this will be another success.

Not what I was expecting

I gotta give Seth credit on this one. Sequels usually follow the same story as the original. This one looks to be thinking outside the box in terms of story. The minimalistic heart in the first movie was what kept me invested in it. This one could go the same way, while also delivering some pretty funny scenes. I'm in.
