Shattered Union script

Jerry Bruckheimer, hot off of PRINCE OF PERSIA, is cooking up another game-to-film adaptation, and if I let you guess all night, you’d probably never pick which one. He’s tapped CHANGELING and WORLD WAR Z writer J. Michael Straczynski to adapt 2K Games’ SHATTERED UNION. Remember that? Me neither, but let me refresh your memory:

In the game, states secede from the U.S. and form their own governments that wage a civil war against each other after Washington, D.C., is wiped out in a nuclear blast and chaos ravages the nation. Players control one of the warring group of states — the California Commonwealth, Republic of Texas and New England Alliance are three of the six — or a European peacekeeping unit sent to reunify America.

So if any of you have seen “Jericho,” it’s kind of like that, but with hopefully less Skeet Ulrich. The game itself was all real-time strategy, but presumably the movie will have more developed characters than a bunch of tanks and apaches shooting at each other. Or maybe not. In any case, it is a rather cool concept, and it may be best to just forget that it was ever based on a game to begin with.
