Shia knows what Indy 5 is about but he's not telling

Aug. 20, 2010by:

Despite what you might think about the fourth INDIANA JONES film - and let's be honest, most of you don't think very highly about it - a fifth INDIANA JONES film is in the works. And that doesn't appear to just be happy internet rumors. Star Shia LaBeouf says they've already got a storyline mapped out for the potential project.

Says LaBeouf, "I got called into Stevens office and he pitched a little bit to me and it sounds crazy, it sounds really cool. (I'm glad he added the "really cool" part because honestly, KINGDOM OF THE CRYSTAL SKULL was crazy and not in a good way.) I'm also guessing that in addition to a briefing on INDIANA JONES 5, LaBeouf was "called into Steven's office" to discuss the comments he made earlier this year about the quality of the fourth film and that "I love Steven...but when you drop the ball you drop the ball."

LaBeouf refused to elaborate on what the pitch for INDIANA JONES 5 involved but he added that "they're writing the script right now." He also didn't indicate who exactly was writing the script and whether those people are being kept far, far away from George Lucas.

LaBeouf is just starting his promotional tour for WALL STREET: MONEY NEVER SLEEPS so expect him to get a lot more questions about INDY 4 as well as TRANSFORMERS 3.

Extra Tidbit: INDIANA JONES 4 misgivings aside, I still love Spielberg too.

so long as they keep george's greasy fingerprints off the script and use real insects/animals insted of oversized digital crap, maybe the'll do better. 1/2 the fun in the original indy films is all the stuff they had around that was done pratically, insted of green screen.

WHY CAN'T THEY JUST LET IT BE ?

Why do they have to keep ruining classic franchises with shitty sequels? I though Indy 3 had the perfect ending for the series. Lets hope Shia's face melts in the next one.

Shia doesn't have to say what it's going to be about b/c I already know. Don't have to be a genius to figure out it's going to be about 2012. That's why they're writing the script right now, so they can get the movie completed by the summer of 2012.

nah, they already did stuff to do with the mayans in the 4th so, that will probably stop them from doing 2012, if they're smart about it.

Am I the only one who didn't mind Shia?

I actually think he did the best he could with his scenes. I wouldn't mind seeing him back with a better part to play.

Shia as of late comes off as one who is a "legend in his own mind"- He's an actor-I'd be careful of gettin' too high and mighty, actors can lose their ass like real quick these days. Shia need remember he's no Johnny Depp or even an Ed Norton, nor ever will be.

the concept

of Crystal Skull was fine, as were the performances by Ford and Blanchett. The problem was the stupid CGI that doesn't fit in with the series and the fact that the writers forgot Screenplay 101: The Hero must be THE HERO. Like someone else said, Indy was far too passive in this film.

Hopefully...

Steven Spielberg explained to LeBeouf how he won't be in this one too!?

Indy IV wasn't that frickin' bad people, it was Harrison Ford as INDY for God's sake. But LeBeouf was just a bad idea. Really bad. I'd much rather Indy have a daughter anyway. Would've been more ironic.

Bring It

I've always seen Indiana Jones as a franchise not a trilogy, so while, Crystal Skull wasn't my favorite, I just saw it as another installment, and an excellent chapter in the overall story of Dr. Henry Jones, II. I not only welcome part 5, I wish they'd make up for lost time and film 2 films back-to-back. It ain't easy getting the Dynamic Trio together, and Ford ain't immortal. As for the haters, I understand and sympathize, but wholeheartedly disagree. Doom Town was my favorite sequence in

And now for the big guns- Not only do I LOVE Temple of Doom, it's my #1 film of all-time. Wow, so this is what it feels like to be unpopular. I can live with that. Cheers.

I liked Indy 4 a lot, and 10 times more than I thought I would. I think the smartest thing I did was lower my expectations deeper than six feet under. Indy 4 has its flaws (I live iin blissful ignorance that the monkey tree-swinging scene didn't happen, and I wish they would have thought of something more original than ants. Reminds me too much Indy 2, and at least they were real.) I liked it enough that I want to see more of Indy in his later years. So I agree, keep Lucas at Bay (pun intended)

RE: LUCAS BASHING

What I can tell you all, having been a lifelong fan of the series (to the point of over-looking gophers, Monkeys and "Mummy"esque killer scarabs... oh, sorry...ants), is that EVERY problem with the fourth film lands squarely in the court of Lucas. I worked on the fourth film. I saw how Steven (and Harrison) pushed for changes, but ultimately, Lucas won. Hence the film you saw.

One could argue that a guy with the name Steven (fucking) Spielberg should or could've been able to do whatever he wanted, but that simply was not the case. And every time Lucas was on set, you could see that, unfortunately, whatever friendship or comraderie that used to exist between them was long gone.

I hope they do a fifth. I hope Lucas lets Steven run the show... but he probably won't.

Adventure is Indiana Jones!

I'm sick of all the George Lucas bashing on this site lately! Where do you fanboys get off? So what if he's not David Fincher- Lucas has done a lot of great things in his career. Have you all forgotten about ILM and the ground breaking special effects work they pioneered??? How about that Skywalker Sound? Or THX certification? How about Pixar? Yea... Lucas got that thing off the ground.

In all those things you mentioned, Lucas was only the money guy. Giving him sole credit for all that stuff would be like giving Fox sole credit all of the stuff James Cameron and friends has done.

And Fincher's average is far better than Lucas'.

CRAP

Indy 4 was a complete waste of time. He did NOTHING. He had no bearing on the outcome of the film whatsoever. He could have given over the crystal skull in the first five minutes and gone home and they would have tracked down the ship, placed the skull back on the neck, awakened the aliens, died, and the ship would have flown away all while Indy was sipping tea and getting anally raped by Lucas, the great destroyer of all that is good. Indy 5 will probably be about Indy doing crossword puzzles

I concur. Everyone seems to be defending it and just conforming to the crap that is film today instead of fighting for the days when film was actually decent. How can you defend this abomination when even the worst in the original trilogy was by far way better then this. It's not because George or Steven lost their talent or their touch. It's because they just got greedy and lost their drive, their hunger. They don't give a f*ck about what we want anymore, they just want our money. Why can't

Since they know we'll pay for it, they just say "oh who cares about the quality?" "they'll go see it anyway." And my dear schmoes that's what happened to Star Wars and that is what has now happened to our beloved Indy...

Don't get me wrong. Indy 4 sucked the fat one, agreed.

However, it wasn't really because Indy didn't do anything. If you take Indy out of the plot of Raiders of the Lost Ark, the movie happens in pretty much the same way. The only difference is that Marion Ravenwood doesn't die. Which is nearly identical to 4. Heh.

Just take the adventure game "Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis" and make the movie.
That was everything what Indy is about!
Old school adventure, no pathetic aliens or whatnot (well, actually, not to be seen anyway). Incredible atmosphere, great redhead as [link] Oh man, could have been so great.

Let's Hope

You wanna know what the problem with Indy 4 was, George Lucas is what the problem with Indy 4 was. When they went into Area 51 and saw all the artifacts including the Arc and found out he was on the Roswell examination team, I creamed my pants. I thought that this was going to be the best film ever. But once all the stupid CGI stuff got thrown in with swinging Shia and all that crap, it went down hill. This is still a promising franchise, they just need to give Lucas credit and keep him away.

You guys are idiots.

Indy 4 did not ruin Indiana Jones. Just the same as Temple of Doom didn't ruin Indiana Jones (and don't you DARE say that was a good movie). Sure there was an overuse of CGI, and people bitching about how Aliens don't belong. But there is nothing that can be done that would ruin how amazing Raiders and Crusade are. Indy 4 was the equivalent of Die Hard 4, fantastic movie on its own, but it had too much to live up to. (Also over used CG) But it was still John McClane, and that was still

Nobody came out of that movie saying "well that ruined Indiana Jones for me, I won't ever want to watch any of those again". If you liked Indy 4 you came out thinking "alright, now I want to go back and watch the others again". If you hated Indy 4 you came out thinking "well now I want to go back and watch the others again". One bad (arguably) movie doesn't ruin an iconic character like Indiana Jones.

So how in the world could this possibly be any f*ckin' good?! I mean nothing against Shia but come on it's called Indiana Jones not Mutt Jones... How is that gonna work as a title? The last one was just mind numbingly boring. And so it was bad, especially in relation to the others. Hell, even Temple was at least fun. I like Shia, and of course Harrison and Spielberg. But I just don't think this can be done properly. Isn't Harrison tired of playing this character yet? If I see someone try to make a Blade Runner sequel I'm gonna charge to hollywood, bat in hand.

I have no hope in this at all whatsoever. This move could be the best from the franchise and it will still be tainted by Kingdom's Mutt Jones/Williams, monkey swingin', alien bringing, and fake ass 5 inch killer ants' legacy. Like it was so campy. Matt and Trey Parker hit it right on the head when they showed Indy literally getting raped by Steven and George on South Park. That's how we all felt watching Indy IV. Just say no and lets just all pretend IV never happened.

Go create your own multi-billion dollar film franchise, then maybe you'll have earned the right to badmouth these guys... but you won't because you'll have finally understood how difficult it is to please everybody.

Get Shia away from this.

The biggest problem of Indy 4 was Indiana isn't a family man. He's a loner. You wouldn't expect to see Snake Plissken running around a prison Island with his family would you? Same goes with Indy.
Spielberg is stuck on this family friendly Indiana and it will ruin the 5th like it ruined the 4th. And not to mention the talentless hack named Lucas is throwing in bad ideas like Aliens and cg Monkey fights. Oh yeah and refrigerators saving people from nuclear explosions. He inserts extreme ideas

And he's the worst kind of narcissist, the kind where they have no talent but believe the rest of the world doesn't get it.

Indy 4 was good, I liked it. When Temple of Doom came out, I recall hearing all kinds of badmouthing- "The inflatable boat part was so fake!" And people hated Short Round much more than Mutt.
Why does it have to be a religious artifact? The Mitchell-Hedges crystal skull and the Ancient Astronauts are classic legends and perfect subject matter.
Bring on Sasquatch! Ha ha

Listen guys... we all want an Indy 5.. just like we all wanted an Indy 4. Because we thought that we could get an Indy comparable to the original trilogy that we loved so much.. but we couldn't. Us fans are all the same.. we clamored for Episode 1 and when it let us down we brushed it off and said II would be better.. and then repeated it for III.. and now 5 years later the prequels are hated. But we brush it off and are all gung-ho for a fifth... but what evidence do we have that it'll be any better then the last outing? There will still be green screens.. and CGI.. and weaker characters.. Lucas's input all over it.

I'm all for a fifth movie.. I really am, but unless they fix a lot of the things from the last one.. this will be just another mediocre outing.

Bring it on. Learn from your mistakes. Fuck George Lucas (not the good kind). In that order.

I'll treat Indy 5 like my last girlfriend and give them one more chance.

I enjoyed Indy 4 up until the big alien reveal and then i was screaming bullshit the rest of the movie. If they can keep Lucas's fat sausage fingers away from the script im stoked for this

I didn't mind Indy 4, it just wasn't near the quality of the originals. If anything, I think Spielberg was responsible for it being weak. He's one of my favorite director working, but he should have been able to keep Lucas at Bay and not let Harrison Ford turn in such a lazy performance. It just didn't feel like anyone was really trying, though fully aware it would be a hit. Still dig the ant scene though!

Indiana Jones and The Attack Of The Clones

I can see it now. Earth is under attack by a fleet of raging Storm Troopers, sent by Darth Vader himself. Earth's only chance of survival lies in the hands of one very ballsy artifact collector and his son, who seems to have had prior experience with aliens in the form of giant waring robots. Action! Suspense! Drama! But nothing will prepare you for Indy 6 : Indiana Jones and The Journey to Jurassic Park.

i down for another Indy movie. Indy 4 was not very good. i watched it a few times to try and really give it a fair shot, but it just had too many ridiculous scenes in it. the spiders, the monkey swinging, the refrigerator, the aliens, the way they made Indian Jones look awkward and clumsy, the aliens, it just didnt work. did i mention the aliens.
but i like Shia and i think he will be a big star for a long time. make him more of the main focus and get back to what made the Indy movies great

I really enjoyed Indy 4. I thought it was really good fun and tried for something new. Can't wait for this one.

All the "planning" is what went wrong with Crystal Skull. I like the movie. I'll defend it. But they spent too long and over-thought every tiny aspect of it.

Get an artifact, some bad guys and make it quick and dirty.

I've watched Indy 4 more times than I can count, due to a job and in store television screens, and it is not a good movie. So there is no way I would spend money to see an Indy 5.

So they're mapping out the story now?

Cool, so Ford should be approximately 112 by the time they start shooting. I don't mean to be a downer - I admire his ambition for the role at any age - but he seemed quite old last time, and even then it was hard to make it work. Is it just me, or does Hollywood seem to plan as though time moves slower than it does?

Indy 4 was great. And i think Indy 5 will be even better! I want a lot more Indy! Do them as long as Harrison can look the role. and when he gets too old - tell younger Indy stories with an actor who looks the role. Keep Shia as a supporting player - nothing more. I'm watching Indy for INDY!

Excited!

I loved Indy 4 and I'm not ashamed of it as I love all the others. I think Spielberg understands the audience a bit more this time around and he'll make Indy 5 a bigger flick.

I didn't hate Indy 4, well except for the vine swinging. I'm always up for another go round with Mr. Jones.

I noticed the article doesn't say anything about Harrison Ford. Does this mean it's going to be a Shia-solo vehicle? If so, then just stop right now...

I know many didn't like Indy 4, I didn't like it much myself. I grew up on these films and despite his flops I will always consider Spielberg my favorite director. I don't want them to tarnish the franchise, but if they can seriously redeem themselves than I'm ok with it.

Hopefully the villain of this film is more threating and the artifact they're trying to find is something of religious affiliation.
