Should Aaron Sorkin write the Steve Jobs biopic?

11.23.2011

We reported a while back around the time Steve Jobs died that Aaron Sorkin was being considered to write a biopic of the late tech pioneer. Now that's progressed a little further, and Sorkin is seriously considering the film as his next project.

“Sony has asked me to write the movie and it’s something I’m strongly considering. It’s a really big movie and it’s going to be a great movie no matter who writes it.”

Sorkin would seem to be a pretty good fit for the project, as he's the one who took a movie about something relatively boring, starting a website, and made it crackle as one of the most exciting movies of the year, even without any action scenes at all.

Could he do the same with Apple and Steve Jobs, or is this too similar to THE SOCIAL NETWORK for him? Even if that is the case, I think he just might be the best man for the job. But who will be his Eisenberg this time?

Extra Tidbit: As THE SOCIAL NETWORK wasn't the most flattering portrait of Zuckerberg, would an equally harsh look at Jobs be over the top this soon after his death?

Lord Voldermort!

If Sorkin can't do it then no one can! :D

Stanley Tucci would be great as Steve Jobs but personally I think Ralph Fiennes could pull it off better in terms of charisma and the occasional psycho-rage.

Yes, Sorkin should write this movie. Aaron Sorkin should write most movies.

Written by Aaron Sorkin, directed by David Fincher. That would make for one seriously great film. I loved the old TNT Original movie 'Pirates of Silicon Valley'. If they. Ade it anything like that I would be for it too.

There's plenty of drama in Steve Jobs

certainly the way he was tossed out of Apple in the mid-80's and then came back after he turned Pixar into a monster would be right up Sorkin's alley; not to mention the battles he had with Disney's Michael Eisner. The only issue I can see is if Sorkin can be objective about his friend.

I don't think everyone needs a biopic, just ask J. Edgar.

Casting

I'd like to see Ed Harris play Steve Jobs, if only because his character from the Truman show reminded me of Jobs.

Hadn't considered Harrris. Good idea. I was thinking of Stanley Tucci. He can do both old and young looks, and played a jerk ceo in The Core.

I thought Jobs wanted him to write a Pixar movie. Was it going to be a Pixar movie about him?

I don't think he should do it because they were friends. I don't think I could write a biopic on my best friend cause there's no way I could be neutral in my decision making on how to portray him to an audience. I'd leave out the bad stuff BECAUSE he's my friend.
But that's just me.

Sorkin was friends with Jobs, he won't portray him the same way he portrayed Zuckerberg.

And George Clooney is being considered for the part.

I think Clooney is many things, but Steve Jobs is not one of them. His younger pictures make him look like a cross between a young DeNiro and James Tayor. And he's got the nose of Steven Soderbergh. Kevin Spacey wouldn't be a terrible pick.
