Sleeping Beauty… a sex-drama starring Emily Browning?

Well, this sure isn’t your father’s SLEEPING BEAUTY. Your degenerate uncle’s, maybe.

The Playlist is reporting that young Aussie actress Emily Browning (LEMONY SNICKET, THE UNINVITED) will be leading the cast of first-time filmmaker Julia Leigh’s SLEEPING BEAUTY.

The decidedly non-fairytale story, written by Leigh (and one of 2008’s Black List scripts), is being described as “a haunting erotic fairy tale about a student who drifts into prostitution and finds her niche as a woman who sleeps, drugged, in a ‘Sleeping Beauty chamber’ while men do to her what she can‘t remember the next morning.”

Browning comes aboard replacing fellow Aussie gal Mia Wasikowska, who you’ll soon see as the titular Alice in Tim Burton’s ALICE IN WONDERLAND. Browning also just recently completed Zack Snyder’s SUCKER PUNCH, having replaced actress Amanda Seyfried.

Armed with a $10 million budget, Julia Leigh’s SLEEPING BEAUTY looks to begin production in Australia sometime next month.
