The fur will fly come Christmas 2019 as Cats prowls into theaters

Break out the catnip and sharpen your claws, because Universal has dated Working Title's feature presentation of Andrew Llyod Webber's CATS, which has recently pounced on a December 20, 2019 release for the big screen musical adaptation. Originally, Universal's silver screen version of WICKED had the spot, but that project has since been pushed with regard to changes in its production schedule.

So far, CATS plans to star a clowder of muscially-gifted individuals with cat lovers the likes of Taylor Swift, James Corden, Jennifer Hudson and Ian McKellan set to lead the charge. Set to helm the feature adaptation is director Tom Hooper (THE DANISH GIRL, THE KING'S SPEECH), who will work from a screenplay penned by Lee Hall, as inspired by the poetry collection "Old Possum's Books of Practical Cats" by T.S. Elliot as well as Andrew Lloyd Webber's award-winning musical.

Word from the alleyway suggests that Webber is in the midst of creating a new song for the film, which is meant to be performed by Victoria, a bubbly young kitten. It's also being said that the film adaptation will feature a twist that audiences and fans of the musical will not expect.

Tom Hooper's CATS is now set to slink into theaters on December 20, 2019. Meow.
