The trailer for On the Road features Viggo Mortensen, Garret Hedlund, Amy Adams, Kirsten Dunst, and Kristen Stewart showcasing a smidgen of emotion

A lot has been said about ON THE ROAD since it premiered at Cannes this year. Most of it surrounded Kristen Stewart and her abundance of nude scenes in the film. Not much else was talked about which surprised me seeing as ON THE ROAD is a seminal work of American writing that has never had a big screen adaptation before.

Walter Salles’ film currently has no US release date, but MSN has posted the UK version of the trailer. Check it out.

Plot: Based on the much-revered 1957 book by Jack Kerouac. Dean (Garrett Hedlund) and Sal (Sam Riley) are the portrait of the Beat Generation. Their search for “It” results in a fast paced, energetic roller coaster ride with highs and lows throughout the U.S.

The trailer definitely has visual similarities to Salles’ THE MOTORCYCLE DIARIES. While I loved THE MOTORCYCLE DIARIES, the movie felt sterile in several places. I am worried that ON THE ROAD will suffer from being too faithful to the source material. While differing too far from Kerouac’s novel may not be a good idea, I do think this trailer feels a little washed out and bland for what should be a very moving and dynamic piece of literature.

ON THE ROAD stars Garret Hedlund, Kristen Stewart, Sam Riley, Amy Adams, Kirsten Dunst, Elizabeth Moss, and Viggo Mortensen.
