There will be no Russos involvement in the future of Ghostbusters

Last Updated on July 31, 2021

Once upon a time, the Russo brothers were in development on a possible GHOSTBUSTERS movie that would have expanded the universe beyond Paul Feig's, with Channing Tatum perhaps strapping on a proton pack and fighting the supernatural. There were ideas of crossing that team over with Feig's female squad in sort of a three-picture arc that would span two different parallel paths for the same franchise.

That no longer seems to be the case, as the Russos are no longer involved with anything GHOSTBUSTERS at the moment, and, if that makes you sad, you can blame the major responsibilities of reeling in two parts of AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR as the reason.

In talking with Forbes, the Russos provided an update as to what was going on with their part of the GHOSTBUSTERS process, which now essentially amounts to nothing.

There is no status with that for us. There was a period there when Paul Feig was engaging Sony in talks about Ghostbusters and we were also engaging them. He was further along with his process than we were and he closed his deal so that’s the only Ghostbusters world that’s being explored right now over at Sony. Once we took Infinity War it took us off the table for any kind of any potential work on a Ghostbusters project.

And that's the end of that. There is a  GHOSTBUSTERS movie that is happening and coming our way though, and it arrives in theaters on July 15.
