Travel to space with Luc Besson in new Valerian featurette

06.19.2017

In one month Luc Besson’s dream project, VALERIAN AND THE CITY OF A THOUSAND PLANETS, will be unveiled, fit with aliens, new worlds, complex languages and over 2,700 VFX shots. Dane DeHaan and Cara Delevingne will lead this massive, galactic adventure, which when looking at it seems more like an amazing acid trip in the desert than a real movie. But it’s all very real, and you can go behind the scenes with Besson in a new featurette that lets you see how the movie went from childhood love affair to completed vision. Be prepared...it's very colorful.

Here is the full synopsis for VALERIAN:

In the 28th century, Valerian (DeHaan) and Laureline (Delevingne) are a team of special operatives charged with maintaining order throughout the human territories. Under assignment from the Minister of Defense, the two embark on a mission to the astonishing city of Alpha-an ever-expanding metropolis where species from all over the universe have converged over centuries to share knowledge, intelligence and cultures with each other.  There is a mystery at the center of Alpha, a dark force which threatens the peaceful existence of the City of a Thousand Planets, and Valerian and Laureline must race to identify the marauding menace and safeguard not just Alpha, but the future of the universe.

With every new piece of footage for VALERIAN I get more and more sucked into the world, and by now I’m ready to be completely immersed in the universe Besson has brought to life. All the colors and characters look so richly detailed and vivid that I feel like I have to watch it just to see how far it all goes. Even if the movie isn’t great at the very least it will be visually stupendous and will require a theater-going experience. I have already allocated the funds for my IMAX ticket. By that, I mean I stole the money from my sister's wallet. Good cause.

Blast off with VALERIAN on July 21.

I can not wait for this movie. I love Luc Besson's work, and his eye for amazing visuals. This is one of the few movies I am looking forward to, and I truly hope it lives up to everyone's expectations. That being said, I unfortunately see this tanking at the box office. The trailers haven't been the best selling point for the film, and the more I see all the "inside look" preview clips they are releasing, the more it shows the cartoon humor and quirky aspects of the film. I fear that will turn

Most anticipated of the summer for me

Don't care for either lead they got but the world(s) and all the different characters look so rich and imaginative! If the other areas work too it's a shame that this probably has to struggle to make it's money back when another space fantasy series seems to be really spinning it's wheels creatively but it's 8th episode is guaranteed to make a billion again in December.

LOOKS GREAT

Looks excellent. Great visuals. Hoping for a great flick. Unfortunately most sci fi films don't do well.

I'm really torn on the trailers for this film.

The visuals for the film look absolute incredible and intriguing.

But the age of the two protagonists and what I can glean about the plot, make it seem like a Twilight kind of movie full with teenage angst and such, and that turns me off.

So I can't decide if I should see this or not. Maybe I'll just wait for Netflix.

Go see it!! Give it a chance and support a great director's dream project!
I agree on the trailers not selling it well. But, I like almost everything he's connected to, and I owe him at least ten bucks and 2-3 hours of my time for giving me The Fifth Element and Mila Jovovich with orange hair in that outfit! I think the whole world owes him for that one!!

Personally I think this looks incredible. But its going to be a tough sell in the states. Internationally though, Luc Besson's got some pull...should be interesting. If Avatar can be the highest grossing movie of all time, I don't see why this couldn't get a chunk of that alien/ fantasy/ scifi loot.

There were a lot of factors contributing to Avatar's success, but very little of it had anything to do with the genre. People were excited about it because it was the first movie to bring back 3D as such a major spectacle with FX that were almost unheard of at the time... But these days, all of those things are pretty commonplace. If Avatar had been released today, rather than 8(ish?) years ago, it would be fairly ignored by most audiences.

There's no way this movie doesn't flop. I have not heard a single person even mention it, let alone say they were excited for it.
