Val Kilmer shares his ideas for Heat 2 and Top Gun 2

06.26.2013

Do you remember when Val Kilmer was awesome? You know, back when he was Iceman and Madmartigan? Back before he became a VOD joke of himself, Val Kilmer was as cool as anyone in Hollywod. Now, he is reduced to movies that are Redbox exclusives. But, with rumors circulating about a sequel to TOP GUN, Kilmer is once again voicing his take on the potential sequels to his prior successes.

In an interview with Larry King, Kilmer shared his idea for a sequel to Michael Mann's HEAT, a film he kicked major ass in:

"Here's my pitch. You remember Natalie Portman in it? She's Pacino's adopted daughter, so she comes home and says, 'Daddy, daddy, I want you to meet my fiancé.' And it's me. He's retired and I come to Chicago where he's retired back to and I'm going to torture him, and then I'm going to kill him."

Not awful but not good enough to warrant a sequel to HEAT. I mean, if you think about it, Robert De Niro, Al Pacino, and Kilmer are all way past their prime. Unless Mann came back, HEAT 2 would be awful. I would much rather see these three actors in a new project instead.

Kilmer was also asked about the still in development TOP GUN 2:

"I think it wouldn't be that difficult to maintain the spirit of it," Kilmer said about following in the footsteps of the original. "Tony was the most generous, positive director I've ever worked for in film. He's not known as an actor's director because he's such a vivid stylist with the camera … but he really loved acting and getting the shot."

So, Val Kilmer likely would not turn down a paycheck for either film, but he is also not looking quite like Iceman these days. Tom Cruise could pull it off, but Kilmer is looking rough. At least there is always THE EXPENDABLES 4.

Where's that?

"Back before he became a VOD joke of himself, Val Kilmer was as cool as anyone in Hollywod."
No wonder! Now, if he had been as cool as anyone in Hollywood, he wouldn't be having these problems today.

Kilmer is actually back to looking like Iceman, he was on Fallon the other day promoting his Mark Twain play and he had lost a shit load of weight... even though Scott is gone, I do want the sequel to Top Gun 2... Heat 2 can be left alone!

Give the guy a break, he just wants to have movie sex with Nathalie Portman. If I was him I'd be pitching that idea too.

It's not gonna happen of course, but still.

Is it just me or does this article seem a bit condescending? Val Kilmer will always be awesome.

Also how gullible are some of you people on here?

Alex Maidy is always like that. Plus he's a shit journalist who shouldn't quit his day job. He regularly takes an actor's comments out of context and thrives on rumor and speculation. Also, he has terrible taste in movies.

Val Kilmer is a living legend and is one of my favorite actors of all time. The guy is still an incredible actor and is an actor I would love to see have a Downey Jr type comeback.

His Doc Holliday is easily one of the greatest performances in cinema history.

Under no circumstances should a sequel to Heat ever be made. Or a reboot. Or reimagining. Or whatever. Heat has become one of those movies which is rightly deserving of its "classic" status. Don't fuck with it.

A Sequel To Heat is Not a Bad Idea

*SPOILER WARNING*

I would love for Michael Mann to write and direct a sequel to Heat. I really dug that Chris (Val Kilmer) got away. I've always wanted to see what happened to him after he left LA. Did he disappear completely? Did he go back for his family? Did he keep being a criminal or did he straighten out his life? As for Val's idea, that is really not good and it's best we forget it was uttered. Now, LET'S POUND SOME CUNTH!

It's been 20 years since HEAT came out. I don't think the spoiler warning is warranted at this point, haha.

He was on Fallon last week and was AWESOME! He looked like he was in better shape too. Have you seen any bits from his "Citizen Twain" play? They look amazing. I say he's had a bit of a bad run, but he's still cool as shit. I still dont think either movie needs the sequel treatment tho.

that video was pretty hilarious!! cool to see he can poke fun at himself, and not get all uptight. yay as far as a sequel to top gun I'd love to see Val return but he'd need to get in major shape.

Yeah he's been in straight to video hell for some years now, but he can still bring it. I think his career could get a nice jolt if he hooked himself onto a tv series like Kevin Bacon has with The Following.

How about he's the reincarnation of Doc Holiday (or his spirit takes over Val's Heat character's body) who romances Natalie Portman's character in order to steal enough money from Al Pacino's Heat character (who doesn't have a lot anyways) to get into the big game! If he's going to screw up his past greats he might as well do it two at a time! Maybe The Doors help Willow and Madmartigan... rescue the wand for another prophecy kid or something...

Kilmer in 'The Saint'

The guy's a pro! Get him back headlining, and a personal trainer.

HEAT is one of my favorite movies ever. That is a fucking awful idea. I hope he was kidding.

Kilmer seems to have gone off the deep end around the time of the Dr. Moreau debacle. Remember the interview he gave where he said that actors knows what it is like to be someone else better than the actual people themselves do? He spent a long time blowing smoke up his own ass. Took himself incredibly seriously. It's a shame. His Doc Holiday is one for the ages.

From reading this article, I'm pretty sure he was joking about the premise for Heat 2. So I don't think you need to read into that comment as much as you did. As for Top Gun 2, if the idea was to follow Maverick as the Dean (?) of Top Gun School, you could easily have Iceman show up as a teacher Maverick brings in to whip the recruits into shape. And given his physical appearance, I'm sure he'll hit the gym for a pay check.

And Natale Portman as his fiancee? LOL.

edit: I don't mean to sound like an asshole, his pitch was just terribly bad. Maybe it was a joke?

I do remember awesome Val..."Ghost And The Darkness" is still one of my favorite underrated films. Now, unfortunately, Val seems less interested in quality scripts and more interested in a quality caterer on set.
