Wonderland trailer | Movie News

The gang over at IGN managed to nab the first look at the teaser trailer to Tim Burton's latest cinematic creation starring Johnny Depp and co-starring Danny Elfman's signature sound, entitled ALICE IN WONDERLAND. The film is a mix of real life and CGI, and didn't entirely bowl me over upon first glance, but let us know your thoughts below. The film co-stars Burton's baby-mama Helena Bonham Carter, alongside peeps like Anne Hathaway, Alan Rickman ( ), Michael Sheen, Christopher Lee, Crispin Glover (nice!), Matt Lucas and Stephen Fry, and will open wide (and in 3D) on March 10th, 2010. What think you?

Burton...
Burton gets a project that is totally based in whimsy and applies his whimsical nature - and now we've got these haters whining about it. Sorry it's not tough or dark enough for you. Sorry it's Disney and not New Line.
Just go put on some black eyeliner and punch a baby - you'll feel better until Saw 9 comes out, or whatever film makes you feel cool about your taste in movies.

Johnny Depp looks like he has a different thing going on here which is cool because I can use it in my 'he IS a genuinely good actor' arguement.

Jim Carrey's Riddler is coming to mind also with a pinch of Tlj's Two Face .
Or is he auditioning for the possibility of playing the Joker in the next Bboy film . Was that over the top , i can never tell :).

My only prob is , Depp has retired into this groove where his repetoire has grown stale , he seems as if he's playin the same character in every movie now , with slight variations , but now he appears to have committed the cardinal sin of the character actor's oath , thou shalt not be given to thespian repetition .
The movie looks about as good as i could imagine , this is to Burton as Transformers is to Bay , a perfect marriage of director ( and their theatrical sensibilities), their artistic instincts and source material . Looking forward to it , too bad Depp is a distraction now instead of an asset .

Personally I think what will make or break this film will be Elfman's score. It's been a loooong time since he did a great Burton movie score, much less in general, so this really needs to be a standout effort. I woudn't go by the music in this trailer as it's most likely temp stuff.

I would have mad props for Burton, or any other director for that matter, if they took a stand and put a stop to this CGI madness and went back to stop-motion puppetry. If only for a few shots, that would be refreshing.

I'll probably still check the film out, but it's went from me in line opening night to just a casual theater trip.

Some people say Jim Carrey was the same as 'The Grinch', 'Count Olaf' and 'Scrooge'. But what about Depp!? I mean, c'mon, I love the guy ... but after 'Willy Wonka', 'Jack Sparrow', 'Sweeney Todd' and this I have the feeling I see right through him, he's becoming very predictable. And if you take away the make-up there would be little difference between any of those characters.
Maybe I'm tired of the Burton/Depp combination.
