Wrestler Pins Venice

09.08.2008

After REQUIEM FOR A DREAM, I was convinced that Darren Aronofsky could do no wrong. I anticipated his next film like it was an ice cream sandwich covered in sex. Then he made THE FOUNTAIN. I will say nothing on the matter save for the fact that I was not happy. That's it. I wasn't happy. Get off my back, okay?

Moving along...when news broke that Aronofsky was next making a flick about a washed up wrassler starring Mickey Rourke, my gooses were immediately bumped. I wanted that film to be Carmen-Electra-in-a-thong good. Well, according to the judges at the recently concluded Venice film festival, it is! Ladies and gents it's official! THE WRESTLER has won the top prize at the 2008 Venice Film Festival confirming once and for all that my homeboy Darren is back! Hurrah!

I hate you

I'm so jealous you're watching the film already! I read the script over the summer and loved it! Being a professional wrestling fan, I think the film does the industry justice. I can't wait to see this movie.

Didn't think much of the fountain when I saw it in theaters, but when I gave it a second watch I realized it was a masterpiece. And I agree with the posts below, Requiem is a great movie, but I have no plans to buy it on DVD and watch it over and over.

What a big deal?

I can wait.
I am glad the Jew is back. And Rourke. No more crap like 9 1/2 weeks part 4.

I for one would really like to see Mickey Rourke make a comeback ala Travolta in Pulp Fiction. Man, remember him in 9 1/2 weeks & Year of the Dragon? What a player

I am seeing The Wrestler TOMORROW at the Toronto International Film Festival. If I were you, I'd be jealous.

I'm very excited for this film. All of his films so far have kicked my ass with their shear awesomeness. Especially The Fountain.

WHOOPPEE!!!

"Requiem" is definitely the sort of film I'll wait a long while before a second viewing. I actually have it as it was packaged along with "Pi," which is a favorite of mine.

Another favorite of mine is "The Fountain," but I completely understand if folks don't get it. When that movie came out I'd already had a brief brush with cancer so I'd been contemplating the meaning of life already, and found it very fascinating.

I'm looking forward to "The Wrestler," but I ain't jealous. Toronto's

I understand everyone is different and all that, but for me The Fountain was and continues to be a masterpiece. The fact that you didn't like it means you're suspect. Still, great news about Venice.

Very cool!

I'm looking forward to the movie as well as a kick in the ass the for Mickey's career. I hope it releases wide though.

The Fountain is 10x better upon the second viewing, so give it another chance.

Ouch!

Well, I am me and I'm not jealous, although I'd expect that many people will be after they read this article.

While I have a great respect for Aaronofsky's work (and his awesome sounding last name) I've never thought his first two films were quite as amazing as most people (I've yet to see The Fountain). Good? yes. But some of the best films in recent history? Not in my opinion. Even so, kudos to the guy for winning such a prestigous award at a relatively young age.

Pffftt...

Oh, I'm all over your back like silver on a gorilla... how can you not be lovin' yourself some "Fountain"?

Still... great news about Venice. I dig.

Oh, and is it just me, or would anyone else say that "Requiem" is the greatest movie they've ever seen, yet have no desire to ever see again? Scared the shite out of me. All I can say to this is: "Ass to Ass!"
