Zombieland director Ruben Fleischer will direct a Babe in the Woods

Columbia Pictures announced today that ZOMBIELAND director Ruben Fleischer is going to direct the action/comedy, BABE IN THE WOODS.

The story centers on a female freshman from the Midwest who arrives at Yale and becomes a target of the New Jersey mob. Sounds like a role for Anna Faris. Well, in my head it does.

A lot of you might be familiar with the guy who wrote the script, Mike White. White is a pretty diverse guy who dabbles in acting, writing, producing, and soon will take on the role of director for an HBO television series titled, ENLIGHTENED. He’s acted in films like ORANGE COUNTY, SCHOOL OF ROCK, GENTLEMEN BRONCOS. As far as his writing credits, he’s penned screenplays for THE GOOD GIRL, ORANGE COUNTY, NACHO LIBRE, and three episodes of the beloved FREAKS AND GEEKS.

Matt Tolmach and Doug Belgrad, presidents of Columbia Pictures, made the announcement. Tolmach spoke of their previous experience with Fleischer, “Our experience working with Ruben on Zombieland was nothing short of amazing. We love what Mike did with this script and could not be more thrilled to develop BABE IN THE WOODS with these two guys. They bring the perfect blend of comedy and attitude to their projects.”

Currently, Fleischer is directing 30 MINUTES OR LESS starring Danny McBride.
