Penn back as Stooge?

Sean Penn has been lured back to the role of Larry Fine for the Farrelly Brothers’ Three Stooges film.

Penn left the role back in June when his marriage to Robin Wright was dissolving. The actor put aside all future projects to go and focus on his family.

When the role for Larry was open, the Brothers wanted to put Paul Giamatti in, but that didn’t work out. The Stooges film was supposed to begin filming in August. However, the project has not made a lot of progress. Originally Jim Carrey was linked to play Curly, then he dropped out. Benicio Del Toro is still apparently interested in the role of Moe.

Even though the project is going rather slow, Brothers Farrelly are just glad to have Penn back on board, “We got him back. He always said he wanted to do it after, you know, taking care of his family.”

So what have the directors been working on in the meantime? A movie called HALL PASS with Owen Wilson about a husband who gets a free pass from his wife to “play the field” for a week.
