It looks like the rumors were true…
Deadline is reporting that Shane Black is in final negotiations to direct IRON MAN 3. Black is primarily known as a screenwriter for films like LETHAL WEAPON, THE MONSTER SQUAD, and LAST ACTION HERO (win!). In 2005, he took on both helming and scripting duties for the awesome KISS KISS BANG BANG which co-starred Tony Stark himself, Robert Downey Jr.
The insider that leaked the news said that it isn’t figured out yet if Black will actually script the film. All I know is that this is really exciting news.
As you all know, Jon Favreau decided to jump off the IRON MAN movie train for Disney’s MAGIC KINGDOM. Favreau told the LA Times this, “Marvel and I both came of age together. The years that we shared were a pivotal experience. Kevin has a firm grasp on the many franchises and how they all interweave and I am happy that I had the opportunity to establish the world that these characters can now play in.”
That’s that. I wouldn’t mind Black writing the script either to be honest.
