Netflix announces Prodigy as their next Millarworld comic book franchise

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

Netflix has recently unveiled the next project hailing from their Millarworld initiative with comic book creator Mark Millar. Not long after the launch of Millar's THE MAGIC ORDER, the mega-popular streamer has cited PRODIGY as the next comic book franchise to debut under the Netflix banner. Written by Millar with illustrations by Rafael Albuquerque (A Study in Emerald, American Vampire), PRODIGY follows the world’s smartest man who is no longer content with running the world’s most successful business. His brilliant mind needs constant challenge and so he’s become the go-to guy for governments around the world when a problem arises they just can’t handle. A Nobel-Prize winning scientist, a genius composer, an Olympic-level athlete and an expert in the occult, Edison Crane is as addicted to the mysteries of the world as he is to sitting at the top of the Fortune 500. These are the tales of the world’s most exceptional man and this story marks his first published adventure.

In the past, Millar and Albuquerque have joined forces to present Huck, a Superman-like story set in a quiet seaside town, where a gas station clerk named Huck secretly uses his special gifts to do a good deed each day. When his story leaks, a media firestorm erupts, bringing him uninvited fame. As pieces of Huck’s past begin to resurface, it’s no longer clear who his friends are—or whose lives may be in danger. In my personal opinion, this is one of Millar's best efforts to date, and the art by Mr. Albuquerque is second to none.

“I gave myself a challenge when I created Prodigy. I wanted to write the smartest thing I’ve ever written and at the same time top any action set-pieces I’ve ever managed in the past and I honestly couldn’t be happier with how this has turned out.” said Millar. “Edison Crane is by far the best character I’ve created in my career and I’m delighted that my genius friend Rafa Albuquerque is drawing the comic-book side of all this. He’s really one of the best artists in the world. I can’t wait to share this with everyone. This really is a beaut and we’re incredibly proud of it.”

For those of you who're looking to get in on the ground floor for PRODIGY, the book will be made available in comic book stores and through online retailers beginning on December 5th.

Meanwhile, Netflix still has plenty of other Millarworld-related projects in-the-works, including two greenlit series adaptations of Millar's Jupiter's Legacy and American Jesus. To that end, film versions of Millar's Empress, Sharkey the Bounty Hunter, and the aforementioned Huck are also expected to arrive, down the road.
