Strike Back below!

I don't know if this is good news or bad news. It turns out that a staff member at the New York Post caught a sneak peek at much of GRINDHOUSE's ultra-violent footage and has reported that there is no way the movie can remain intact and receive an "R" status (which is needed to be shown in mainstream cinemas).

The trouble, he reports, stems from the fake trailers which were done by guest directors, which are to show during the film. The reporter goes on to list a couple of examples:

1. Rob Zombie's piece, WEREWOLF WOMEN OF THE SS, features a Nazi concentration camp in which every woman is topless. There is also one point, where one of the topless women is tied down to a table, drained of blood and then branded with a swastika.

Explicit? Probably.

2. Eli Roth's trailer for THANKSGIVING, features a young girl (played by Jordan Ladd) performing oral sex on her boyfriend in his car. She realises, half way through the act that he has been killed by a slasher, because he happens to be missing his head.

Further on, there is a scene where an obese man eats a baby. I can't believe I just typed that sentence in sincerity. An obese man eats a baby.

Explicit? I'd say so, yeah.

Bad news? Probably won't get to see this stuff in the cinema. Good news? It exists. You'll probably get to see it on an unrated DVD edition some time.

Didn't the MPAA announce they were going to explore a new rating? Basically doing what Roger Ebert's suggested for years and put an A rating between R and NC17? Giving movies a rating that won't keep them out of theatres, or curtail their content? This would be the perfect time to test that out.

Assuming it's rated NC-17 in the states..would that be an R in Australia, which could mean it could still get released in cinemas?

Maybe Robert or Quentin should give good ole Spielberg a call? It worked for Bay getting his R dropped to PG-13. If that don't work... I say, eat another baby, and be happy we'll get to see EVERYTHING on DVD... and I really... REAAAAALLLLY hope they release a sweet-ass 3 disk SE.

Cinema releases frequently get edited to fit an MA-15+ rating down here in Australia, so this isn't surprising. It's also one reason why I don't go to the flicks anymore - I wait for the DVD instead. The baby-eating sounds cool, though. "Get in my belly!"

Getting cut...
If they have to cut out some stuff due to fudge-packers like the mpaa, doesn't that defeat the purpose the directors had of giving the people the feel of a true grindhouse experience? That wouldn't be good, just label it nc-17, people that are gonna see if it's an R rating isn't gonna care if it's nc-17. I mean really, they should just give a middle finger to the mpaa with a nice and loud "Fuck...

Couldn't they just put black bars across the explicit stuff? -Make it so that it looks like the theater itself made their own cuts?

That'd be cool...thank the movie gods for DVD, though.

its not like they can cut scenes from the trailers for the film since the trailers are just those scenes from films that don't exsist. i say keep it all in or wait till dvd for the trailers.

"An obese man eats a baby" sounds like Fat Bastard from the "Austin Powers" sequels, in theme only, of course.

I recently saw a TV spot, and whether or not the MPAA included in their rating that of the embedded trailers, the movie got off with an R-rating, according to this spot.

The MPAA lets Tarantino get away with a lot, so who knows. I can't wait to see the trailers at any rate.

Thanksgiving (SPOILER)
Got to see Roth's trailer at SXSW earlier this week. Eating a baby is nothing compared to some of the other stuff done in the trailer. All I've got to say, topless chick on a trampoline getting a blade in the hoo-ha. Me thinks that scene will probably get cut.

Hmmm
Could go either way, maybe Tarantino and Rodriguez can give the MPAA guys some great head, and hence an 'R' will do, no cutting necessacery!

Could this be the new "Snakes on a plane"? They should title the film that way "An obese man eats a baby"
