PLEASE NO
the best thing about OotP was the Fight between Dumbledore and Voldemort. that movie was horible. Even if I had read the books previously, I don't think I would've enjoyed it much. |

Rumors, rumors and more rumors. That's all we can go by. Cuaron, or hell, Burton should go for it. These shouldn't be the only options, (I hear Roman Polanski likes working with kids) |

CRAP
I'm a huge Potter fan, and I hated what they did with OotP. Yates took a great, compelling story and turned it to shit. |

BOOORING!
I think I preferred the Spielberg rumour. Either Yates was very pedestrian or the story was very slight and uninteresting. Either way, the last Harry Pothead movie just didn't seem all that. |

I'm going to agree with the pro-Cuaron lot here:
I thought his style was perfectly suited to the material...which is probably why the subsequent directors have emulated Cuaron's Potter (and not, say, Columbus' Potters...which were, among all else, so busy obsessing over the letter of Rowling's books that they completely missed the spirit of those books).
I'd also argue that Cuaron got the best, most natural performances from the three leads.
And, IMHO, Cuaron's Potter is the only one, thus far, that feels like a cohesive film...and not just a Cliff's Notes summation of the novel.
That said, Yates' Potter was probably my 2nd favourite of the series...so I guess this could've been worse (as it was with Columbus' paint-by-numbers approach...or Newell's tonally inconsistent approach).
P.S.
For whatever it's worth, I also prefer Gambon's sprightly, mischievous Dumbledore over Harris' frail, wan interpretation (and I can't imagine why Columbus initially hired someone whose age and health made it wildly apparent that he'd never be able complete the series...which guaranteed that a subsequent director would have to, much to the annoyance of fans, recast the role). |

I'D STILL SEE IT, BUT I'D REALLY LIKE...
The thing is, the only filmmaker to be faithful to the books was Columbus, but I'm not too sure I'd want him back. As much as I dug the hell outta Order of the Phoenix, Warner really needs to hire someone who can take this series out with a bang. Cuaron could be the right guy for the job. He already has one of these films under his belt. All that really matters is that they keep this two-part film thing. If that happens, fans will get all the great stuff from the final book (and, man, was there a lot), because Cuaron would essentially be accepting the job under the terms that he'd make two big movies and not take out anything important (which, as anyone who's read the book can say, is plenty). |

I'M UP FOR IT.
Yes, OotP was my favorite so far, yes consistency would be great for the franchise, even though CoS was light, is was a little darker than SS and the same could be said for HBP. Didn't WB, if i'm not mistaken, greenlight Yates to direct HBP before OotP came out? I mean its the same story here then. And also, didn't I read, on joblo I believe, that book 7 would be told in 2 films? IDK, I am up for this, but that is just my opinion. |

NO! NO! NO!
OOTP was a good HP film in terms of the action and everything. Otherwise, it was literally a SparkNotes version of the entire book. It didn't even get to the crucial talk between Dumbledore and Harry about the prophecy -- which is the driving force behind the last two books!!! All we heard was "I really care about you Harry". F That sideways. Yates should not do the 7th if he is going to do it the way he did the 5th. Sure the action was great but I want the story to be told as well -- which is what Cuaron did with the 3rd film. |

I'd like to see Half Blood Prince before making my final decision (the official decision will probably come before then) but based off of Order of the Pheonix, I'd say no Yates for me. |
