Disney has announced that everything will be coming up Milhouse … er, Maggie Simpson, this Friday, when the mouse-eared streaming service brings The Simpsons animated short film "Maggie Simpson in Playdate with Destiny" to the studio's exclusive streamer. As per a special handwritten note from Simpsons creator Matt Groening, the short will stream globally on Disney+ beginning tomorrow, Friday, April 10.
The film begins on a day that seemed like just another day at the park for Maggie Simpson. But when Maggie faces playground peril, a heroic young baby whisks her from danger — and steals her heart. After a blissful first playdate, Maggie can’t wait to see her new baby beau again the following day, but things don’t go exactly as planned. Will fate (or Homer) get in her way?
Originally released in theatres before Disney and Pixar’s ONWARD, “Maggie Simpson in ‘Playdate with Destiny’” builds on the success of the franchise’s 2012 Academy Award-nominated film, “Maggie Simpson in ‘The Longest Daycare,’” which will also begin streaming on Disney+ later this month. Both films join the service’s impressive “The Simpsons” collection including “The Simpsons Movie” and 30 seasons of the Emmy Award-winning television series.
This is bound to be a real treat for Simpsons fans, especially when you consider that the opportunity to see Maggie's latest adventure on the big screen was short-lived. I say this because even though ONWARD was released in theaters before cinema closures became a mandatory byproduct of the COVID-19 crisis, the film starring Tom Holland and Chris Pratt as two elf brothers who set out on a magical adventure was pulled from theaters before it really had a chance to shine. As it happens, ONWARD is now available to stream for all Disney+ subscribers.
