Amazon's highly-anticipated TV series based on J.R.R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings has found its first series regular to rule them all in Australian actress Markella Kavenagh.

Set in Middle-earth, the series is expected to explore new and fantastic stories preceding the events of Tolkien's The Fellowship of the Ring. Leading the charge for Amazon's ambitious new project are JD Payne, Patrick McKay and director J.A. Bayona (JURASSIC WORLD: FALLEN KINGDOM). As part of the effort to make their LOTR endeavor unique, Amazon has placed casting directors in the US, UK and Australia. With the hunt for actors stretched across a number of territories, it's to be expected that a diverse group will be attached to the larger-than-life project.

Previously, Kavenagh has starred in a variety of TV series and mini-series, such as ROMPER STOMPER, PICNIC AT HANGING ROCK and THE CRY. Kavenagh also stars as Claudia for director-writer Katie Found's upcoming drama, titled MY FIRST SUMMER. Kavenagh was also the recipient of the Rising Stars Award at the 2018 Casting Guild of Australia Awards. In other words, this young woman has got chops.

For the moment, Kavenagh's LOTR role is being kept under wraps, though with casting announcements now making their way into the wild, it's to be hoped that we'll be hearing more details sooner rather than later. Stay tuned!
