New Happy Death Day 2U trailer starts 2019 with death, death, more death

The time loop logic of HAPPY DEATH DAY 2U is probably vastly too complicated to think about, let alone convey in a trailer, so there’s really no way to market it other than to show star Jessica Rothe offing herself again and again and again. The new trailer for the upcoming sequel does just that, showing the cursed character being trapped once again in an obnoxious time loop, this time having to find new and inventive ways of killing herself all in the name of finding the new killer and saving her new batch of friends. Oh, the things you have to do to protect friendship.

After the 2017 original was a surprising hit a sequel was quickly rushed into development, and now this outing will have to validate a second crazy plotline by going even crazier with the premise. The first trailer received some flack for giving away the ending of the original movie, so this time around the marketing team is sticking with what they know will sell this thing: Rothe going hilariously bonkers and diving literally head-first into death in all sorts of clever ways. If given the chance to live, die and repeat, would you not also leap from an airplane with only your swim gear?

Christopher Landon returns for both scripting and directing duties, with Israel Broussard, Suraj Sharma, Sarah Yarkin, Ruby Modine and more making up the cast. Here’s the plot synopsis:

Two years after the events of the first film, Tree Gelbman unexpectedly re-enters the time loop and becomes determined to escape it after finding out her friends are now involved. When she discovers that Lori Spengler, the original killer, has been murdered, Tree must face the new killer in order to uncover their identity and break free of the time loop once and for all.
