Syfy grants a series order to Russo Brothers’ Deadly Class adaptation

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

At long last, it's been announced that Syfy has granted a series order to DEADLY CLASS, based on the Image Comics-published series from creators Rick Remender and Wes Craig! It's being said that after viewing the pilot for the new show back in September, the network had become increasingly interested in signing on for an entire season based on the concept.

Here's the official synopsis for the first volume of the long-running series:

It’s 1987. Marcus Lopez hates school. His grades suck. The jocks are hassling his friends. He can’t focus in class. But the jocks are the children of Joseph Stalin’s top assassin, the teachers are members of an ancient league of assassins, the class he’s failing is “Dismemberment 101,” and his crush has a double digit body count. Welcome to the most brutal high school on earth, where the world’s top crime families send the next generation of assassins to be trained. Murder is an art. Killing is a craft. At Kings Dominion School for the Deadly Arts, the dagger in your back isn’t always metaphorical.

The source material is set to be adapted by Rick Remender and Miles Orion Felscott, who will serve as executive producers on the project alongside Joe Russo, Anthony Russo and Mike Larocca. When the punk rock assassination series arrives, Benedict Wong, Benjamin Wadsworth, Lana Condor, Maria Gabriela de Faria, Luke Tennie, Liam James and Michel Duval will serve as the stars of what is expected to be a psychedelic display of angsty, blood-soaked carnage.

“We’re committed to developing graphic novels for SYFY and have found a rich, compelling, truly unique world in Deadly Class,” said Bill McGoldrick, President, Scripted Content, NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment. “Our producing partners expertly combined high school angst, 80s nostalgia and comic flair into a beautifully realized, visually arresting pilot that truly brings Rick and Wes’ acclaimed comic series to life.”

For those of you who've yet to read the series, it's got something of a KILL BILL meets FEAR AND LOATHING IN LAS VEGAS vibe to it. If that sounds like something you'd be into, I highly recommend that you keep your eyes peeled for more news about DEADLY CLASS as it develops.
