After helming the Winston Chruchill biopic DARKEST HOUR, the in-demand director, Joe Wright, has announced that he's signed on to bring a big screen adaptation of A.J. Finn's bestselling novel, The Woman in the Window, to theaters.
Finn's novel centers on the reclusive Dr. Anna Fox, who spends her days holed in in her New York City brownstone, fortifying herself with too much wine, binge watching old movies, and spying on her neighbors. In the “Rear Window” vein, Anna eventually witnesses something she shouldn’t while keeping tabs on the Russell family, the seemingly picture perfect clan that lives across the way.
When work begins on THE WOMAN IN THE WINDOW, Pulitzer Prize winning writer of "August, Osage County," Tracey Letts, will provide the script. Meanwhile, Scott Rudin (NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN) and Eli Bush (LADY BIRD) will produce.
With films such as PRIDE AND PREJUDICE and ATONEMENT under his belt, Wright is bound to strike many as a perfect fit for bringing Finn's suspenseful and Hitchcockian novel to life on the silver screen. Whether or not Wright will start work on THE WOMAN IN THE WINDOW before settling into the film adaptation of John Williams' STONER novel has not been confirmed at this time.
