It’s an ’80s extravaganza in poster for Steven Spielberg’s Ready Player One

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

Now this is the poster we should have gotten for READY PLAYER ONE instead of the one featuring Tye Sheridan's stupendous elastic legs. Warners Bros. have released a new poster for the Steven Spielberg film, illustrated by Paul Shipper, and much like the rest of the marketing surrounding READY PLAYER ONE, this poster is full of easter eggs, ranging from the DeLorean from BACK TO THE FUTURE to Spike Spiegel’s Swordfish II from COWBOY BEBOP.

Check it out below and let us know how many easter eggs you can spot!

As I've never read the Ernest Cline novel on which READY PLAYER ONE is based, I've been pretty out of the loop in regards to the upcoming film, but what we've seen looks absolutely bonkers in the best way possible. Steven Spielberg may not always reach the heights of his prime with every film nowadays, but he rarely disappoints, and READY PLAYER ONE seems like it will be an entertaining ride.

The official synopsis for READY PLAYER ONE:

The film is set in 2045, with the world on the brink of chaos and collapse. But the people have found salvation in the OASIS, an expansive virtual reality universe created by the brilliant and eccentric James Halliday (Mark Rylance). When Halliday dies, he leaves his immense fortune to the first person to find a digital Easter egg he has hidden somewhere in the OASIS, sparking a contest that grips the entire world. When an unlikely young hero named Wade Watts (Tye Sheridan) decides to join the contest, he is hurled into a breakneck, reality-bending treasure hunt through a fantastical universe of mystery, discovery and danger.

READY PLAYER ONE will hit theaters on March 29, 2018.
