Ben Affleck still not confirmed to direct the solo DCEU Batman film

Last Updated on July 31, 2021

While reception to BATMAN V SUPERMAN, and the current DCEU in general has been divisive – at best – the one thing that (most) people seem to agree on is that Ben Affleck made an awesome (if badly-written) Batman. And besides being a great Batman, Affleck is also known as a great director with GONE, BABY, GONE, THE TOWN, the Best Picture Academy Award-winning ARGO, and the upcoming Gangster flick LIVE BY NIGHT (which looks pretty sweet by the way) under his (oversized utility) belt.

So it would be logical for Warner Bros. to want Ben Affleck to direct the new THE BATMAN flick, and it seemed that was for sure going to be the case. However, in an interview with The Guardian, Ben Affleck had this to say about directing the upcoming solo BATMAN film:

That's the idea. But it’s not a set thing and there’s no script. If it doesn’t come together in a way I think is really great, I’m not going to do it.

Well, with a track record like Affleck has with his directing projects, it would definitely be disappointing to see someone else take the helm. And, worse, that Warner is rushing a product rather than waiting for it to be ready. But I'm still (mildly) optimistic.

No release date set, though it would be surprising if Warner Bros. sat on it for too long.
