Ewan McGregor is still down for one or two Obi-Wan Kenobi movies

So long as the STAR WARS movies keep bringing in the big bucks, the franchise will keep going and going and going, which means that in addition to the main saga episodes, we're in for countless spin-off films. As the STAR WARS galaxy contains an enormous amount of characters and stories, there's plenty of material for Disney/Lucasfilm to mine for years to come, but Ewan McGregor is hoping (yet again) that at least one of those spin-off films will feature Obi-Wan Kenobi.

McGregor played the role in all three installments of the STAR WARS prequel trilogy and with almost two decades separating REVENGE OF THE SITH with A NEW HOPE, there's definitely room for Obi-Wan to have a few more adventures, unless he really did spend each and every day on Tatooine watching over a young Luke Skywalker. You've got to get out of the house once and while. Ewan McGregor has always seemed keen to reprise the role and while speaking with Premiere (via Den of Geek), the actor said that now that he's older, he's down for multiple Obi-Wan movies.

I’ve always thought there was a story to tell between my last one and Alec Guinness’ first one. It would be fun to film that story now I’m older, I’d be the right age. I’m forty-five, Alec Guinness was what, sixty? I could do two of them! I hope that they’re going to explore different genres under the Star Wars banner. And one of those could be an Obi-Wan Kenobi feature film. Or two! The Obi-Wan Kenobi Story Part 1 and Part 2!

Wrapping your mouth around the cumbersome dialogue (I don't like sand) found throughout the prequel trilogy was no small feat, even for its accomplished cast, but Ewan McGregor was one of the few who was able to make it work, all while looking like he was having a good time with it. I can't think of many aspects of the prequel trilogy which I'd want to expand in more STAR WARS movies, but a spin-off (or two) featuring McGregor as Kenobi is definitely one I'd welcome. Here's hoping that it actually happens and we're not still posting "Ewan McGregor would love to play Obi-Wan again" articles ten years from now. It's probably safe to say that I'm not alone in this desire and Zaki Hasan of Zaki's Corner recently chatted with McGregor where he spoke for all of us by telling the actor that we'd love to see him return to the role.

Yeah, yeah, me too. I hope so too. I mean, I'd love to do it. I've said that – to the point that people are sort of thinking I'm pitching for work, but I would, I'd be very happy. There's no plans for it at the moment, but it'd be nice.

Speaking of spin-offs, don't forget to check out the brand-new poster for ROGUE ONE: A STAR WARS STORY while we wait for the new trailer to drop tomorrow morning. The Gareth Edwards directed flick will hit theaters on December 16, 2016.
