Update: Richard Linklater and Jennifer Lawrence depart The Rosie Project

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

Update: Following Jennifer Lawrence's departure, THR says that Richard Linklater has also departed THE ROSIE PROJECT. Lawrence’s departure apparently had to do with scheduling, while Linklater was only on board the film to work with Lawrence. Now, along with recasting the main role, the studio will also be searching for a new director. Original report follows.

Everyone wants a piece of Jennifer Lawrence but she can't be everywhere, and sometimes that means that she has to leave projects behind. THR reports that Lawrence has dropped out of Richard Linklater's upcoming film, THE ROSIE PROJECT. The romantic dramedy tells "the story of a socially inept genetics professor who comes up with a scientifically sound survey to find the perfect mate. His plans go awry when he meets Rosie Jarman, who in her whirlwind manner possesses all the opposite qualities he should be looking for." THE ROSIE PROJECT was developed as a vehicle for Lawrence and was specially tailored to her voice, but as the project is still considered a priority at Sony, the studio will be moving immediately to recast Jennifer Lawrence's role.

However that blank spot in Lawrence's schedule won't stay empty for long as the actress has already moved on to a new project; Variety reports that she's in early talks to star in Darren Aronofsky's untitled indie film. Details on the Aronofsky film are scarce but the project seems to be coming together quickly as Aronofsky is hoping to start shooting the film in the spring. The director was previously working on a script about "a boy living in Staten Island whose drawings come to life," but left the project when budget disputes could not be settled. Aronofsky has also moved on from the Evel Knievel biopic starring Channing Tatum.

Jennifer Lawrence is finishing up on Morten Tyldum's PASSENGERS and will next take the lead in Steven Spielberg‘s IT'S WHAT I DO. Already completed but not yet released are THE HUNGER GAMES: MOCKINGJAY – PART 2, JOY, and X-MEN: APOCALYPSE. I'd definitely hire Jennifer Lawrence to help me manage my time if she wasn't already so busy…and I wasn't so lazy.
