Alex Garland has been crafting solid screenplays for a decade now, having written films such as DREDD, NEVER LET ME GO, SUNSHINE and THE BEACH, among others. Now he's prepping the release of his directorial debut, EX MACHINA. The film follows Caleb (Domhnall Gleeson), a 24 year old coder at the world's largest internet company who wins a competition to spend a week at a private mountain retreat belonging to Nathan (Oscar Isaac), the reclusive CEO of the company. When Caleb arrives at the remote location he finds that he will have to participate in a strange and fascinating experiment in which he must interact with the world's first true artificial intelligence, housed in the body of a beautiful robot girl (Alicia Vikander).

Here's the film's first poster:

The idea of a walking/talking artificial intelligence is always fun to play around with in films. While it's a little far from our life cycle, something like this doesn't even seemout of reach with the likes Siri and Cortana keeping us company for the time being. Garland's been writing some really solid screenplays so I'll be excited to see what he can bring us when he jumps behind the camera.

EX MACHINA should see a US release sometime in 2014.
