As August comes to a close, so does another summer movie season. While 2014 may not have been as exciting as we anticipate next year or the year after will be, it did not disappoint with hits like GODZILLA, GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY, and X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST. But, if you go back and look, there have been some hugely impactful and memorable movies released in summers gone by.

Here is our list of the greatest summer movies of the 20th Century. Whittling it down was a difficult endeavor, but we here at JoBlo.com were up to the task. This list represents the absolute top notch movies that represent what a summer blockbuster should be. Remember that this list only goes up to 1999, so don’t you dare mention THE AVENGERS or THE DARK KNIGHT. And, if your favorite didn’t make the cut, let us know in the talk backs below.
