Paramount to release dramatic cut of Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues

Whether this is an April Fools Day joke or not, the mere fact that Paramount went through the effort to assemble this makes it worth noting. Now, as you may already be aware, ANCHORMAN 2: THE LEGEND CONTINUES has been released in both a PG-13 theatrical cut, an extended unrated cut, and an even longer R-rated version with 763 new jokes. Now, a fourth cut has been announced: The No Joke Cut.

Removing all humor from the mix, The No Joke Cut will provide a rare, unique alternate look at a funny movie. Judd Apatow had this to say about the new version.

“Comedies often fail to get the consideration they deserve because laughter masks the serious storytelling going on beneath the surface. This new cut illustrates that Anchorman 2 can hold its weight against any drama.”

Director Adam McKay added the following:

“People know that Will and I do many joke options for our movies, but I think what gets lost is the fact that underneath the laughs there’s a very powerful drama at work. Movies like SOPHIE’S CHOICE, ORDINARY PEOPLE and BREAKING THE WAVES are the movies that inspire Will and me. I’m just glad, with the no joke cut, audiences can finally appreciate the rawness and drama of ANCHORMAN 2.”

If only this were true! I can almost see it as a challenge to try and sit through the entire movie without cracking a smile would almost make for a fun drinking game. Even this trailer cannot eliminate all of the humorous moments from Will Ferrell and Christina Applegate‘s performances.

ANCHORMAN 2: THE LEGEND CONTINUES hit Blu-ray today.
