New TV spot for Carrie remake with Chloë Grace Moretz touts an R-rating

The remake/reimagining of Stephen King's best-seller CARRIE is just a month away and the latest TV spot for the film adds a little more incentive to go check it out as the familiar R-rating logo pops up just at the end. Now, does that mean CARRIE will earn that R? Hard to say at this point, but with director Kimberly Peirce at the helm and stars Chloë Grace Moretz,, Julianne Moore, and Judy Greer factored in there's certainly some real promise that this could be at least a fitting rival to Brian De Palma's 1976 original adaptation.

Don't. Go. To. Prom.:

Here's the synopsis:

A reimagining of the classic horror tale about Carrie White, a shy girl outcast by her peers and sheltered by her deeply religious mother, who unleashes telekinetic terror on her small town after being pushed too far at her senior prom.

I guess my resounding thought on CARRIE is whether or not it's necessary. It makes sense to tap into a series that has been "reimagined" and "sequeled" out enough that most folks are aware of it, but aren't there thousands of other horror novels out there that have yet to reach the big screen? That said, this looks serviceable enough, even if I'm annoyed beyond all reason with the "black blood" in the TV spots and trailers. It's CARRIE, man. The image of her covered in blood is synonymous with the character. Instead, it looks like she's being doused in oil, which probably wouldn't bode well for her "fire" powers.

CARRIE starts murdering classmates with her mind on October 18, 2013.
