James Murray is best known as one of the stars of Impractical Jokers, but the comedian is showing audiences a much darker side with his latest project. The first trailer for Don’t Move, a new horror movie based on Murray’s bestselling novel, has arrived, and it promises a fun creature feature about a group of campers facing off against a massive prehistoric spider. Check it out in the embed above!

Murray co-wrote and produced Don’t Move, which is set to hit theaters on September 11. The film stars Lyndsy Fonseca, rapper Russ, Tom Cavanagh, Hunter King, Rob Riggle, and Joseph Lee Anderson. The cast also includes cameo appearances from T-Pain, Matt Biedel, Murray himself, and his Impractical Jokers co-star Brian Quinn.

What is Don’t Move about?

The story centers on Megan Forrester (Fonseca), who joins her church group on a camping getaway after losing her family in a tragic accident. The trip takes a turn when the group, including mysterious member Ricky Vargas, mistakenly ends up in an area of the forest targeted by a dangerous predator.

The film is based on the 2020 novel of the same name, which Murray co-wrote with Darren Wearmouth. While fans know Murray primarily from the prank show Impractical Jokers, he has spent years building a career as an author, writing multiple novels and developing original stories with the hope of eventually adapting them into movies and television projects.

A lot of folks ask me how an Impractical Joker can write horror,” Murray previously said. “One could argue that what they do to me on Jokers is horror.

Director Maclain Nelson helped bring Murray’s creature feature vision to life. Nelson previously described the movie as having the spirit of classic monster movies, comparing it to Tremors because of its combination of scares, science fiction elements, and a group of characters forced to work together against an impossible threat.

For Murray, Don’t Move represents a chance to bring one of his own creations to the big screen outside the traditional studio system. The film is being released through an independent theatrical model, with the team hoping that fans of Murray, horror movies, and creature features will help turn the project into a success. Tickets for screenings and premieres are now available through the film’s official website.

Produced by Murray, David M. Wulf, and Ethan Jack Berman, Don’t Move comes from Impractical Studios and Redline Entertainment.
