This new television spot for The Big Wedding with Robert De Niro, Susan Sarandon, Diane Keaton and Robin Williams is incredibly painful to watch

The Big Wedding

Part of me is sad when I see great actors reduced to predictable, lazy films but on the other hand I know to them it is just a paycheck. We get invested in these actors when they have played iconic roles or been in films we have loved and then become outraged when the actors star in something that we feel is beneath them. But to them it is a business and sometimes you just need to pay your bills.

I might be slightly defending THE BIG WEDDING but believe me it still looks pretty horrendous. The film will probably do decent business because there’s always a market for movies like this. Someone had to go see PARENTAL GUIDANCE for it to do over $70 million and I’m sure it’ll be huge on Redbox once it’s released on DVD. But my God it feels like my soul is burning when I watch this new spot for THE BIG WEDDING. Seriously, I’ve been pissing sulfur all morning.

“Here’s an example of how to make a film completely unappealing to anyone under the age of forty”

Synopsis:

With an all-star cast led by Robert De Niro, Katherine Heigl, Diane Keaton, Amanda Seyfried, Topher Grace, with Susan Sarandon and Robin Williams, THE BIG WEDDING is an uproarious romantic comedy about a charmingly modern family trying to survive a weekend wedding celebration that has the potential to become a full blown family fiasco. To the amusement of their adult children and friends, long divorced couple Don and Ellie Griffin (De Niro and Keaton) are once again forced to play the happy couple for the sake of their adopted son’s wedding after his ultra conservative biological mother unexpectedly decides to fly halfway across the world to attend. With all of the wedding guests looking on, the Griffins are hilariously forced to confront their past, present and future – and hopefully avoid killing each other in the process.

Make sure you mark it on your calender because I’m sure your Grandmother is going to want to see it: THE BIG WEDDING is out on April 26th, 2013.
