When the green band JOHN DIES AT THE END trailer came online in October, it looked good. Weird, funny, and everything we would want from a Don Coscarelli horror movie. Now, this new red band trailer gives us pretty much the same footage, but enhanced with a lot more violence and nudity.

For those of you who have not read JOHN DIES AT THE END, I suggest you do. It is a fun and unique comic-horror novel that stands alone as a very original work of fiction. When I read it, I never imagined it would work as a movie but these trailers have changed my mind.

Plot: It’s a drug that promises an out-of-body experience with each hit. On the street they call it Soy Sauce, and users drift across time and dimensions. But some who come back are no longer human. Suddenly a silent otherworldly invasion is underway, and mankind needs a hero. What it gets instead is John and David, a pair of college dropouts who can barely hold down jobs. Can these two stop the oncoming horror in time to save humanity? No. No, they can’t.

Yes, that is Angus Scrimm, aka The Tall Man, making a cameo as a priest. This movie will not be a box office smash, but it does look to be one of those movies that will benefit greatly from positive word of mouth.

Starring Paul Giamatti, Chase Williamson, Rob Mayes, Clancy Brown, Glynn Turman, Doug Jones, Daniel Roebuck, Jonny Weston and Fabianne Therese, JOHN DIES AT THE END will be available On Demand on December 27th and in theaters on January 25th.
