It is nice to see a truly unique movie make it to the level of buzz building around BEASTS OF THE SOUTHERN WILD. After a lot of media coverage from Sundance and Cannes, the film is building towards a release via Fox Searchlight.

The new trailer for the film evokes both WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE and a bit of THE LIFE OF PI. But, there is a very unique voice in the film.

Star Quvenzhané Wallis is one of those child actors that you watch and wonder how they can be so talented at such a young age. She comes across as an old soul and truly inhabits her character as if it was really her personality. That speaks a lot for director Benh Zeitlin. Check out the trailer below.

Plot: In a forgotten but defiant bayou community cut off from the rest of the world by a sprawling levee, a six old girl exists on the brink of orphanhood. Buoyed by her childish optimism and extraordinary imagination, she believes that the natural world is in balance with the universe until a fierce storm changes her reality. Desperate to repair the structure of her world in order to save her ailing father and sinking home, this tiny hero must learn to survive unstoppable catastrophes of epic proportions.
