I remember when I used to write about the Mortal Kombat reboot over a period of two months. It never ended up happening but instead we got a sweet ass trailer that led into a web series.
I was really excited about that web series until I actually watched it. It was not so great, unless I was missing something. Kevin Tancharoen served as director on both and Oren Uziel wrote the script for the MORTAL KOMBAT: REBIRTH trailer. Now the pair are being brought back together again to reboot the MORTAL KOMBAT franchise for the big screen.
Details were scarce and this all that was offered: “There is no actor attached and the new story will not serve as an extension of the game or digital series.”
Does that mean that we can’t have Michael Jai White and Jeri Ryan on board for this? Also, I am all for the corniness that MORTAL KOMBAT movies bring. I loved Paul W.S. Anderson’s original adaptation. But why was I not as happy with the web series? Does the old MORTAL KOMBAT serve as delicious nostalgia for me or did I not give MK: LEGACY a fair chance? I’m open to try it again.
Just wondering if we will get the same realistic character approach on this one. Just don’t bring back Sheeva.
