The Coen Brothers have finally found a young actress to fill the role of Mattie Ross in their remake of TRUE GRIT. That actress is Hailee Steinfeld.
Right now you’re probably thinking, who? Steinfeld might be a relatively unknown 13 year old actress, but does have an agent and an IMDB page. For the record, she does not look 13. At least not in that picture.
Steinfeld will take on the intimidating task of having to hold her own against Matt Damon, Josh Brolin, and Jeff Bridges. Taking the role of Mattie does require nerves of steel and the ability to be straightforward. So Steinfeld should have no problem taking on the challenge of sharing the screen with the three actors.
In TRUE GRIT, Mattie Ross is a determined 14-year old whose father has been killed by Tom Chaney (Brolin). Desperate to capture Chaney, Mattie enlists U.S. marshal Rooster Cogburn (Bridges) to track her Father’s killer before a Texas Ranger (Damon) does.
