Blair Witch 3?

JoBloJoBlo

It’s been just over a decade since THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT hit theaters and created two firmly entrenched opinion camps of “brilliant” and “stupid.” I favor the former, and see the film as a classic of the genre, despite its deceptively simple concept of “running around the woods and yelling.”

The sequel was a massive let down for too many reasons to go into here, but recently the BBC spoke to directors Daniel Myrick and Eduardo Sanchez about a third installment they’ve been mulling over.

“Ideally, each Blair Witch film would be a completely different kind of movie. We’ve thought about doing a film that takes place in the late 1700s and looks like a Kubrick movie with gritty looking people and lighting…But now, we’re thinking about going back and and seeing what happened directly after the first film finished. I think it will have some kind of video element in it, but it won’t be a first person hand-held movie.”

Hm, which do you think would be better? An 18th century witchhunt, or seeing what happens to the guy standing in the corner? I’d go with the first one, but I think the directors are forgetting that the handheld camera is what made the film memorable in the first place. Take that away, and I’m not sure you’ve got anything worth watching.
