Lionsgate is developing a Blair Witch TV series

Back when THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT first came out, it was accompanied by a barrage of tie-ins that delved deeper into the mythology filmmakers Daniel Myrick and Eduardo Sánchez had created. Mockumentaries, books, comics, video games – I found all of that stuff fascinating at the time, and went through as much of it as I could. The Blair Witch concept wasn't just about people getting lost in the woods, there were interesting stories there that could be explored further.

So I'm hoping the mythology that was being pieced together back then will carry over into the Blair Witch television series that Lionsgate is currently developing, and hoping that Myrick and Sánchez are involved in some capacity.

It's no surprise the Blair Witch is getting the TV treatment, as we're in a time when all sorts of cinematic properties are heading to the small screen. Even Chucky might be getting a TV show, and I definitely see more immediate potential in the idea of a Blair Witch show than in one that would follow that homicidal Good Guy.

No details have been made available about the Blair Witch series yet, Deadline just dropped a quick mention into an article about Lionsgate's Studio L digital content slate. All that was said was,

The studio is also developing a series based on the horror phenomenon The Blair Witch Project

So we know it's in the works, but we know nothing about it. We'll have to wait and see if the development process goes anywhere.
