Jurassic Park 3D to roar in IMAX this April; are you taking the journey?

As if the prospect of seeing JURASSIC PARK in the theater again, and in 3D, wasn’t appealing enough, it has been announced today by the IMAX Corporation and Universal Pictures that Steven Spielberg’s epic will receive a one-week 3D engagement in IMAX theatres worldwide simultaneous with the film’s wide release beginning April 5, 2013.

According to a press release, “the IMAX release of Jurassic Park has been digitally re-mastered into the image and sound quality of The IMAX 3D Experience with proprietary IMAX DMR (Digital Re-mastering) technology. The crystal-clear images, coupled with IMAX’s customized theatre geometry and powerful digital audio, create a unique environment that will make audiences feel as if they are in the movie.”

While I’m as dubious about post-converted 3D as the next guy (I actually haven’t seen any of the 3D re-releases that have been plaguing our theaters these last couple of years), I can’t deny that JURASSIC PARK is just plain different. I want to experience this movie again in the theater – I recall hitting it up three times back in 1993 – and I’m honestly quite curious to discover if the 3D treatment works.

And now IMAX is an option? Dammit, Universal, why do you tempt me so?!
