From “Mockingbird Lane” to “Hannibal,” Eddie Izzard is cornering the horror market for NBC!

Word dropped to today (via EW) that Izzard will board the well-cast “Hannibal” series for the network. As you know, Izzard (pictured) plays Grandpa Munster in “Mockingbird Lane” as well, which previewed on NBC as a Halloween special last month.

In “Hannibal,” Izzard will play an inmate at the Baltimore State Hospital for the Criminally Insane — yes, the very same facility where Hannibal Lecter is eventually incarcerated. Izzard’s character is claiming to be “the infamous Chesapeake Ripper.”

With Mads Mikkelsen, Hugh Dancy, Gina Torres, Lara Jean Chorostecki, Hettienne Park, Caroline Dhavernas (below) and Aaron Abrams also cast:

The project is described as a contemporary thriller series featuring the classic characters from Thomas Harris’ novel Red Dragon – FBI agent Will Graham and his mentor Dr. Hannibal Lecter – who are re-introduced at the beginning of their budding relationship.

Expect the show to hit next year.
