Ghostbusters III to be rewritten by Men in Black III scribe Etan Cohen

Earlier this month, we heard from none other than Dan Aykroyd himself that GHOSTBUSTERS 3 was still on, and with a new writing staff. The majority of us rolled our eyes while nodding, treating the words as if they’d just come from our crazy uncle. We’ve written more “GHOSTBUSTERS 3 is still in the works” articles than I care to research, and how far have we come? Not very…

Today it seems as though the much-demanded sequel will indeed get a fresh coat of paint, however. According to Variety, Etan Cohen has been handed a pen and paper and will get to work on GB3 pronto, presumably in Aykroyd’s basement. Cohen was the original writer on MEN IN BLACK III before it was hurled into its numerous production problems and rewrites, although he’s still the only writer to receive screen credit. He also contributed to the screenplays for TROPIC THUNDER and Mike Judge’s IDIOCRACY.

Cohen replaces “The Office” scribes Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky, who were brought onto the project over three years ago to get the ball rolling. Now let’s just wait and see what Bill Murray’s opinion on all this is…
