Lionsgate will release Guillermo del Toro’s MIMIC on Blu-ray on September 27. Cover art has not yet been revealed, but we do know about the special features on the high-definition release:

Unlike the barebones DVD version, new bonus content was created just for the release, including an audio commentary and an introduction by del Toro, two featurettes about the creates and a making-of retrospective, as well as deleted/alternate scenes, outtakes and storyboard animatics. Watch the original ending below.

The 1997 film is directed by Guillermo del Toro off a script he co-wrote with Matthew Robbins, which is based on a short story by Donald A. Wollheim. Mira Sorvino (below), Jeremy Northam, Josh Brolin, F. Murray Abraham, Charles S. Dutton, Alexander Goodwin, Giancarlo Giannini and Alix Koromzay star.

A disease carried by common cockroaches is killing Manhattan children. In an effort to stop the epidemic an entomologist, Susan Tyler, creates a mutant breed of insect that secretes a fluid to kill the roaches. This mutant breed was engineered to die after one generation, but three years later Susan finds out that the species has survived and evolved into a large, gruesome monster that can mimic human form.
