Just last month, writer/director/producer Victor Ginzburg’s adaptation of Russian writer Viktor Pelevin’s GENERATION P was released. Ginzburg will now helm another Pelevin adaptation, as he has acquired the rights to his vampire novel EMPIRE V, described as a loose sequel.
“This film is going to redefine the vampire genre – which Pelevin has already done in the book,” Ginzburg said boldly. “It is an unbelievable discourse on current human society and its obsession with blood, beauty and money, which at the core is a coming of age story of a young vampire and a love story set in contemporary Moscow.”
Ginzburg is currently in talks with a western investment fund and major television channels in Russia. He is unsure of whether he will shoot it in Russian or English and whether or not it will be in 3D. He has the first draft of the script completed and hopes to be pre-production by spring of 2012.
The 2006 novel is a vision of modern Russia as a vampire nation with the initiation of a young man into the spiritual life of vampires and their language.
