Platinum Dunes’ A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET is set to hit theaters in a few months but let’s take a step back today. Instead of talking about this remake… let’s talk about the original franchise in all it’s Robert Englund greatness!
You see today not one but two DVD announcements were made concerning the NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET franchise. First up we’ve got the news that the original 1984 film will finally be hitting Blu-Ray! Nice! Johnny Depp’s blood shooting onto the ceiling in high definition?! Oh I’m there! The cover art for this release can be seen directly above and here’s the list of special features announced:

Damn! That’s a pretty packed DVD! I think it’s safe to say most of us will be picking this one up as soon as it hits shelves! Paired with this Blu-Ray release comes a brand new NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET box set. The NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET COLLECTION will include all 8 films released in the franchise thus far. Basically it’s the old box set plus FREDDY VS JASON. Here’s the kicker though… As you can see below it’s pretty obvious that New Line is using an image of Jackie Earle Haley’s ‘Freddy Krueger’ as their cover art… Wait what?!
That doesn’t even make sense. Haley has absolutely nothing to do with this entire box set so why in the world would New Line slap him on the cover? That’s like a slap in the face to Robert Englund and ELM STREET fans everywhere. The only logical reason for this is that these releases are nothing more than an opportunity to pimp out the remake and get people reacquainted with the franchise before it. Maybe there’ll be enough backlash from the fans and New Line will change that cover. Both releases are set to hit shelves on April 6th, just in time for Samuel Bayer’s A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET’s April 30th release date.
