Now that we’ve FINALLY
left 2009 behind us; I checked out the
films that are to come in 2010,and I gotta say it, it’s looking pretty damn good!
Yeah sure, its remake madness, but some of them have peaked my interest and
there’s enough original stuff to wet my appetite. Behold my
13 MUST SEE GENRE FLICKS OF 2010 below! NOTE: I would have slapped FRIDAY THE 13TH
PART 2 in there, but it doesn’t look like it will be ready by the end of the year. So
be it Jedi!
6- JONAH HEX

Director: Jimmy Hayward
Starring: Megan Fox, Josh Brolin, John Malcovich
WHY: Lets see, a Western
(I love Westerns man…one of my fav subgenres), written by the CRANK bad boys (Neveldine and Taylor)
having to do with a scarred bounty hunter fighting off the undead? Sold right
there! Hot piece Megan Fox and cool dude Josh Brolin in the mix? A bonus!
5- THE WARD

Director: John Carpenter
Starring: Danielle Panabaker , Amber Heard, Lyndsy Fonseca
WHY: It’s one of my favorite directors,
doing a feature after 9 years of being MIA on the big screen. Just for that, I’m
pumped! I read the script, and it was all right, predictable but all right. As long as he doesn’t pull an Argento (genius that lost it) – we’re all
good. Amber Heard is good times as well, here’s hoping she brought her bikini
from The Stepfather to this set!
4- MY SOUL TO TAKE

Starring: Max Thieriot, Nick Lashaway, Zena Grey
WHY: Wes Craven doing
another undead serial killer back for revenge horror flick???? F*CK YEAH! Modern
horror needs another Krueger, shit it even needs another Horace Pinker! So bring it
Craven!
3- INCEPTION

Director: Christopher Nolan
Starring: Leonardo DiCaprio, Ken Watanabe, Joseph Gordon-Levitt
WHY: Nolan is one of this
decade’s most exciting directors, the cast is strong, the teaser tantalizing,
the visuals are nuts and I also have no idea what this movie is about and I like
it that way! Looks like it can be this year’s THE MATRIX and I’m not just saying
that cause of the nifty imagery.
2- PIRANHA 3D
Release Date: April 16, 2010
Director: Alexandre Aja
Starring: Elisabeth Shue, Dina Meyer, Ving Rhames
WHY: Gore hound and loving
it Alexandre Aja has yet to direct a film I didn’t love and
this one shows promise. A slick "man eating fish on a rampage" premise, lots of gore, ample TNA and all of it in
3D at that! This sick puppy has the potential to be the HORROR RIDE of 2010 –
this year’s
MY BLOODY VALENTINE 3D! I’M IN!
1- PREDATORS

Starring: Topher Grace, Adrien Brody, Laurence Fishburne
WHY: I’ve been jonesing
for a PREDATOR 3 since the end credits of
PREDATOR 2 rolled and no the two AVP
movies didn’t fill that empty spot that’s been in my soul for so long! So my
money is on producer Rodriguez and director Nimrod Anatal to give me what I’ve
been waiting for since 1990 – a badass, gory, WELL WRITTEN flick showcasing one
of the best monsters in genre history doing what he does best. To say I’m pumped
for this one would be an understatement.
NON HORROR BONUS: THE EXPENDABLES

Director: Sylvester Stallone
Starring: Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Jet Li,
WHY: An old school vibed action film that stars Mickey Rourke, Terry Crews, Steve Austin, Eric Roberts,
Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jet Li, Jason Statham, Brittany Murphy, and Dolph Lundgren.
And it’s directed by Sly “he rocked my world with RAMBO 4" Stallone. Any questions?
